Historically Black Tryon Parish Celebrates History With Three New Plaques

Homecoming at Good Shepherd, Tryon, was celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, with a blessing of three plaques that tell the congregation's complex history, from the original log chapel to the educational opportunities provided for African-American children.

Soup Kitchen Gets Boost from Foundation Grant


The renovation of the Jericho Road Soup Kitchen at St. Gabriel's, Rutherfordton, is getting closer to the goal after a $20,000 grant from the Episcopal Foundation of Western North Carolina.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry Remains in Hospital This Week

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry remains hospitalized as a precaution after his Sept. 20 surgery, and doctors have determined the mass they removed was not cancerous, according to an Oct. 2 update from The Episcopal Church’s Office of Public Affairs. The surgeon initially estimated a recovery period of two to three weeks. With a more extended recovery planned, no timetable was released for the resumption of Curry’s regular work schedule.

Mystics Retreat

Join Center for Spiritual Women for a transformative and enriching retreat for women October 27-29th at Lutheridge Conference Center in Arden, N.C. Led by Judith Davis and Jean Woods, the retreat will Explore Women Mystics and focus on how the lives of female mystics can inform our own. Together, Judith and Jean will create a nurturing and empowering space to delve into the wisdom and spirituality of four remarkable women mystics, ranging from the ancient wisdom of St. Julian of Norwich and St. Hildegard of Bingen to the 20th century brilliance of Dorothy Day and Mary Oliver.
