St. Crispin's Conference Center and Camp

Newsletter August/September 2023

Dear Friends,

We are excited to share that we have hired a new Executive Director for our beloved St. Crispin’s Conference Center + Camp. Join us in welcoming Trueman Hoffmeister and his family!

Kenneth, Trueman, Wendy and Emily Hoffmeister

Trueman has a deep passion for the impact conference and camp programs can have on today’s youth and their families. He is joining us from Wisconsin where he served as the Executive director of YMCA Camp Jorn. He has spent the majority of his 33 years attending and working in the camping industry. He met his wife, Wendy, at camp, their two children, Emily and Kenneth, were raised at camp. Most recently he has served as the General Manager of YMCA of the Rockies in Colorado and the Executive Director of the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, Bridgeport Camp in Texas. His first day at St. Crispin's will be December 1st.

Among a number of strong applicants for the position, Trueman stood out with his extensive experience, and his gracious and hospitable personality. I am confident he will be able to build on the outstanding work that Joy and Alton have done as interim leaders.

Blessings,

The Rt. Reverend Poulson Reed

“Keep watch, dear Lord, over those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, and shield the joyous.; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.”

Book of Common Prayer, p. 134

What does it mean to ‘Shield the Joyous’?

To shield the joyous is to keep them lifted up in prayer so that they might be able to remain in the midst of their joy, rather that experiencing the harmful effects of evil in the world. Of course, we all eventually must experience hardships, yet, this prayer asks God to allow for those in the midst of joy to remain there, at least for a while longer.

When we think of the joyous, we think of our children, first. We love to see them run and play in safe spaces, enjoying God’s creation and one another in fellowship. Then, we think of those thin spaces in which they reach out and touch the face of God. Many of these people have found those moments to occur on these holy grounds of St. Crispin’s. So, how can we ensure a safer environment?

By adding a security gate, we will be able to protect our kids, the guests of St. Crispin’s, and the staff from potential harm. Please donate to the safety and security of the joyous; your gift will help ensure that our beloved guests and campers will be given an added measure of solace each night while they sleep, thus giving rest to the weary while also doing that which we long for in our prayers…

…to shield the joyous, all for God’s love’s sake.

Will you be a Shepherd at the Gate?

The goal is to raise $30,000 to install an automated security gate with keypad entry and security cameras.

There will be more information and an opportunity to give

towards this need at the Convention this weekend!
