THE TORCH: News and Updates

Saturday, June 8, 2024

May gads, June, updates! Somehow the entire month of May slipped by without URC sending out a single Torch newsletter. No, May is not 'National Save the Electrons' month, but it was a bit busy. Your editor presumes you were able to fill the void with other forms of entertainment!

Due to a press for time and a need to get info out to you, this will be brief but dense and rare weekend edition of the Torch.

Upcoming Events:

Sunday, June 9, there are two interfaith, public prayer events for peace and racial solidarity.

  • Race Unity Celebration, hosted by the Baha'i Community of South Bend, 3 p.m. at Potawatomi Park. A flyer is provided below
  • Let's Turn it Around (LTIA) will host an annual prayer for peace in our local community, particularly about gun violence, 5-6 p.m. at Jon Hunt Plaza (fronting the Morris Performing Arts Center)

Thursday, June 20, World Refugee Day will be observed from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the Community Learning Center, Main Library, South Bend. The event is free, and will include great ethnic food, a panel discussion, and a viewing of the movie, The Staging Post. The World Refugee Day program is a collaborative of the St. Joseph County Public Library, Neighbor to Neighbor, Catholic Charities, and URC. Check our website for updates: https://www.urcsjc.org/world-refugee-day-2024.

There will be more complete newsletters soon; thanks for your consideration of these events!
