THE HISTORIC JEFFERSON COUNTY

EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH CELEBRATES

195th ANNIVERSARY!

Reflections from Pastor Miller-Evans...

During some casual conversation before the Administrative Council meeting in November of 2022, Martha Creel said that Ebenezer Baptist Church could not find anyone to consider filling the pulpit. I volunteered to see how I might help out even though it is 270 miles from my house to the church, one way.

With a little creative thinking, we settled on parking a small RV on the church property and "plugging in" to the church electric and water. Janel has a thriving private counseling office in Saint Petersburg, so Thursday afternoon we pack our two Chihuahuas and head north. We take a leisurely 4 hour Sunday drive back to Saint Petersburg. We have reached a stride between four days in urban St. Pete and our three days in our country "estate" in Lamont, FL.

Sunday, October 1, 2023 the church celebrated the 195th anniversary of its founding. It is the oldest church in Jefferson County built 2 years after Florida became a state with the Louisiana Purchase. We believe that we are the second oldest church after the Catholic Basilica in Saint Augustine, although some would contest that we are the fifth oldest church in Florida. We are also the first congregation to join the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida.

Moving from a pastorate of twenty years in urban Saint Petersburg to a rural county where the entire population is smaller than Saint Petersburg is quite a change. In response I plan to enroll in the Baptist Seminary of Kentucky's certificate program in Rural Ministry and partner with Together in Hope as we move into a new future of ministry at Ebenezer Baptist Church.

40 Years

Baptist Women in Ministry

est. 1983

Thank you #BWIM on 40 years of advocating, supporting and leading the way. Thank you for your courage and determination to make a difference in the lives of women clergy, professors, seminarians, chaplains, deacons, and all women who serve in ministry.

"In the next phase of its ministry, BWIM will work to create a Baptist world where women in ministry are wanted, not just permitted; where women in ministry are celebrated, not just tolerated; where women in ministry thrive, not just survive."

Adapted by Meredith Stone from "A Twenty-Five-Year Retrospective of BWIM, in State of Women in Baptist Life Report 2007, originally written by Pam Durso.

A great celebration indeed. Louisville is such a hospitable city. On Tuesday Meredith Stone, BWIM Executive Director, announced BWIM had exceeded its $500,000 goal in a campaign to fund ministry expansion. $519,000 was raised - the most money BWIM has ever raised in a single effort!

Remembering Judith Baillou

our Sister in Christ from Freeport, Grand Bahama

Judith's Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11 AM, Emmanuel Baptist Disciple Centre, Emmanuel Way, High Rock, East Grand Bahama.

Judith Baillou, 64, loving wife to Rev Pedyson Baillou, mother of two daughters and one son, friend, and so much more is now in her eternal home. Judith died Monday, September 25, 2023. It is with great assurance knowing that Christ has prepared the way and a place for Judith, as she placed her faith in him.

Soft spoken, kindhearted, generous and gentle, Judith reflected Jesus through her words and actions. Please keep the Baillou family covered in prayer.

Passport is going to

Puerto Rico

Next Summer!

Passport's philosophy of identifying where to host camp, especially outside of the continental U.S. is pretty specific. Go where we are welcomed and invited. The family of God is so BIG and we have so much to learn from fellow Christians around the globe. That is why were are excited to share the great news that we are headed to Puerto Rico in 2024.

Thanks to those who helped make introductions along the way. CBF Florida/ Caribbean Islands Ruben Ortiz and American Baptists in Puerto Rico
