Ready to Trade In for a Cleaner-Fueled Vehicle?

Do you live in a ZIP code that is impacted by higher levels of pollution? The Air District is providing grants for income-qualified Bay Area residents to retire their older car and replace it with a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery, or hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, or a pre-paid card to use for public transit or to purchase e-bikes. Asthma Awareness & Health Inequities

Did you know that Black Californians with asthma are twice as likely to die from asthma than white Californians? We do know that health inequity most greatly affects people from disadvantaged or historically oppressed groups and that these avoidable inequalities are not natural, but rather the product of human behavior. We’d like to share with you an impactful infographic from the California Department of Public Health showing “Asthma Inequities in Black Californians” and what causes them. Health inequity hurts us all.


COVID-19 and Asthma: 3 Years Later

A recent review from the U.K. based on existing research discusses the connections between COVID-10 and asthma. Here are some highlights:

  • Poor asthma control (vs. severity) increases worse COVID-19 outcomes.
  • Inhaled corticosteroids may protect against severe COVID-19 outcomes.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are safe for those with asthma.
  • Public health interventions around COVID-19 also reduce exposure to other respiratory viruses.

COVID-19 Risk by Occupation

A new study published in the American Journal of Public Health has revealed what occupations and industries put workers at greatest risk for COVID-19. While those working in health care and social assistance were most susceptible, those in other fields were also at elevated risk. The article also proposes ways to reduce working families’ risks for COVID-19 as well as any future pandemics. Learn more.
