New Exercise: MacLorie 3D

MacLorie 3D is a multi-issue entrepreneurial new venture negotiation exercise we’ve added to the DRRC materials library. This new exercise involves a negotiation between a startup and an original equipment manufacturer related to the sale of 3D printers. It emphasizes how understanding hidden interests can drive integrative solutions and includes a preparation tool that enables students to identify interests and quantify issues. Additionally, MacLorie 3D also includes a webinar in which one of the authors, Professor Stephen Humphrey, explains key learning objectives and the utilization of the preparation tool

Negotiation in the News: Soccer icon Lionel Messi scores historic deal

At the Kellogg School of Management, faculty members regularly analyze current events to highlight important negotiation and conflict resolution concepts. Recently, Professor Cynthia Wang provided an annotated analysis of Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi’s unexpected move to join Inter Miami CF, an American Major League Soccer club, to her negotiation students. The analysis considered the relevant parties and their interests (Messi, Major League Soccer, Apple TV, Adidas, etc.), the pros and cons of contingent contracts, and how to think creatively to expand the negotiation pie. For the full annotated version of the ESPN article on Messi’s decision, click here. Such instructional offerings can help guide students’ analytical skills with vibrant real-world examples.
