MESSAGE FROM THE VICAR

Dear St. Augustine's 'ohana,

Last week, Jesus shared a parable to help us see that God's realm is not an economy; God's realm is an ecology. We are invited to expand our view beyond ideas of "fair transaction" to live into "right relationship" with ourselves, one another, all creation, and the Divine.

This week, we'll dive into what it means to participate actively in the ecology of God's realm, both figuratively and literally. We'll listen as Jesus tells a story of two brothers, one who promises to do as he is asked (but doesn't) and one who says he won't do as he is asked (but does).

Jesus is saying that it's not enough to promise to participate. What's most important is that we actually do it!

Join us this Sunday—Creation Care Sunday—to discuss the ecology of God's realm and how we can participate actively as good stewards of this planet. This special liturgy focuses our attention on actions we can take to care for all creation. During both the 7:00 am and 9:00 am services, we will pause to give thanks and light candles for our animal companions who have died, and, at 10:30 am, we'll offer blessings for all pets and pet owners.

Please join us!

Blessings,

Vicar Jennifer

P.S., Mahalo nui loa to everyone who participated in our Annual Bazaar! It was a huge success because of you! So many helped to plan, work long hours to prepare and staff the event, and invite community members to attend. The funds we raised are crucial for St. Augustine's, helping us to maintain our beautiful campus buildings and continue serving our community with services and events. Your active participation makes our mission a reality: we are a place to BE the love of God and to FEEL the love of God.

P.S.S, A reminder: there will be another Time & Talents drawing this Sunday October 1 during the 9:00 am service. If you have not yet done so, please submit your paper copies to admin office or fill out the online form here.

We are truly blessed with abundance in this community!

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO

  • Lani Bowman for cleaning the church and providing flowers this week.
  • Maurine Gomes for serving as lay reader last Sunday.
  • All St. Augustine's members and Kohala community members who made last week's Bazaar a success!

ST. AUGUSTINE'S NEWS

CELEBRATING OUR ANNUAL BAZAAR SUCCESS!

What a wonderful day last Saturday! We had a steady flow of happy shoppers, lots of ono grindz to enjoy, and amazing music to keep us moving and grooving!

Our gratitude to all our church and community members for working on and attending the event. Our successful day means that people had a great time and that we have much needed funds to take care of building maintenance and future event planning.

The St. Augustine's Annual Bazaar planning committee outdid themselves with long planning meetings and hours of hard work for weeks leading up to the event! Mahalo to Kathy M., Eileen, Susan & Peter, Kim, Maurine, Patsy, Cindy & John, and Kathy W. Many thanks to our wonderful Thrift Shop crew for preparing the shop in advance: Iris, Carol, and Mavis. Mahalo to Annalisa for hours of work preparing and pricing items for the Boutique and jewelry.

SHARING OUR TIME & TALENTS

Next drawing is this Sunday, October 1!

What brings you joy? Perhaps you like to garden, cook, or organize things. Maybe you enjoy carpentry, reading to keiki, or sending greeting cards. All gifts of time and talent make a big difference in the life of our church and community.

Please fill out the Time & Talents online form for 2024. Paper forms are also available in Walker Hall. As you look through our list of ministry opportunities, you might be surprised at what sparks your interest!

Every St. Augustine's member who turns in a Time & Talents Form will be entered into a drawing for a $25 donation. Congratulations to Kathy Matsuda winner of the September 10th drawing! We will have three more drawings: October 1, October 8, and October 22.

If you have information to share, please let us know! This is a space to help us stay in touch in a variety of ways, such as news, offers of assistance, or garden bounty (fruits, veggies) you would like to share. Please email Vicar Jennifer or Kathy Webb: VicarJennifer@staugustineskohala.com or admin@staugustineskohala.com
