TXCPA

President's Message

by Max Duplant, CPA

It’s definitely summer in Dallas! Temperatures are rising, swimming pools are filling, and TXCPA Dallas is hot at work planning and kicking off a year of fun and educational events you’ll want to be involved in.

The summer months are a time of intense preparation for the Dallas chapter’s “busy season” that will begin in the fall. Our CPE Council and other committees are designing a full curriculum of entertaining and informative activities that we will be sharing with you in the upcoming months.

In the meantime, we hope you’ll take advantage of some great networking opportunities coming up. Our July Thirsty Thursday will be in a different venue for this month only. Join us for our monthly happy hour at TXCPA’s new headquarters on Midway Road on Thursday, July 20. Enjoy drinks, hors d’oeuvres and time to visit as usual, hosted by our state society. (Just remember we’ll be back at Blue Mesa in August.)

We’ll be getting together on Saturday, July 15, for another of our Feed the City events for TangoTab. For those who have not participated before, TangoTab presents regular volunteer events supporting our communities by making sandwiches for the area’s underprivileged. We hope you’ll join us on the July 15 at Rockfish Grill in Richardson.

Speaking of organizations supporting the community, our Business & Industry Committee along with the Financial Planning Association of D/FW recently co-sponsored the latest in our Behind-the-Scenes events, a tour of Envision Dallas (formerly Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind). This impressive organization is a vital resource for education, lifestyle management training and employment for the area’s blind and visually impaired. A big thanks to Envision’s excellent staff for their help in creating this transformative and inspiring experience.

The 2023 Leadership Development Academy (LDA) term begins in August, and we invite you, or someone you know, to apply and become a part of this year's class. We are very big on our LDA. In its 14 years of existence, it has produced many exceptional young leaders, both for their firms and for the Dallas chapter. If you would like to be a part of this prestigious group, or you know someone who would make a great candidate, please submit an application by Saturday, July 15.

Just a reminder… The Dallas chapter’s training room is available for rental. If your organization, team, club or other group needs a space to accommodate around 45 for meetings, classes, etc., contact the TXCPA Dallas office at 972-960-8311 for more details.

There is no better time than now to get involved in TXCPA Dallas. Committees are forming and holding their first meetings of the year, so now’s the time to get

in on the ground floor of 2023-24 planning. We invite you to review our list of

committees here and contact Laura McFadden if you’d like to serve on any of

them.

Stay cool, everyone, and enjoy your July!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Apply Now for the

2023 Leadership Development Academy

TXCPA Dallas is now accepting applications for entry into its 14th annual Leadership Development Academy.

This program is designed for professionals at the staff, senior or manager level with approximately two to five years’ experience. Candidates must be members of TXCPA Dallas. Over the course of the program, participants will learn and practice the skills needed to become effective leaders in the profession, in their communities and in their firms.

This year we are pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with Adam Tarnow, former CPA and co-author of The Edge: How to Stand Out by Showing You’re All In. Adam will be teaching all five sessions of this year’s Academy, and his book will serve as the foundation of the curriculum.

For more information including class dates and the application, click here or contact Laura McFadden.

Note: Applications are due by July 15.

Big TXCPA Wins in the 2023 Legislative Session – Support the PAC and Show Your Gratitude

TXCPA accomplished two enormous legislative wins in the recently concluded 2023 legislative session. Accounting students will now be able to begin taking the CPA exam after completing 120 semester hours (SB 159) and more accounting scholarships will be available to students before their 5th year of accounting (HB 2217). Both bills were significant steps in addressing the CPA pipeline. It could only happen with the CPA-PAC and our advocates. The CPA-PAC led the way during the election season and our advocates showed up to talk to legislators. If we want to continue our success at the Capitol and address the CPA pipeline and other important issues, your contribution to PAC is vital! Let’s continue to improve and enhance our influence at the Capitol. Donate here.
