Nevins News

Greetings!

October is a wonderful month bringing with it those cool crisp autumn days as well as well as bushels full of cool crisp apples.  This month we here at the library are inviting all of you, those young and old alike, to participate in our first PUMKINPALOOZA.  What's a  PUMKINPALOOZA you might ask?  Here's the deal...

Purchase a FOAM pumpkin at any one of the craft stores and decorate it as your favorite book character .  You may paint it, carve it, dress it up, accessorize it...let your inner artist shine.  Bring your finished creation to the Children's desk or the main Circulation desk where you will be given a specific number for your entry.  Pumpkins will be displayed within the library and patrons will be encouraged to vote for thier favorites.  Ballots will be available at the Circ. and Children's desks.  Winners will be chosen and announced on the afternoon of the October 28.  Good luck to all and tell your friends.  We hope to fill the library with some fantastic pumpkins --- a PUMPKINPALOOZA!!

 Best Wishes,

 Nevins Memorial Staff

Civil War Medicine and How it Relates to Present Day Health Care by Dr. Ira Spar

Dr. Spar, a member of the Society of Civil War Surgeons, will present an overview of Civil War battleground medicine and the life and times in a Civil War Hospital. He will also include a discussion of the ways in which this initial foray into Federal health care has affected how we address health care issues today.  Dr. Spar is also an author and has recently completed a book "New Haven's Civil War Hospital".
