The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) is proud to present Bunny Williams - Not a House but a Home. In this film the legendary designer, permanently named to Architectural Digest’s AD100 Hall of Fame, takes viewers inside her Manhattan apartment, Connecticut home and gardens, and various projects, offering insights into her process and her inspirations and sharing the practical lessons and advice that inform her projects. Along the way she recounts the story of her career, accompanied by exclusive photographs and newly filmed scenes of beautiful homes and gardens ranging from grand estates to modest clapboard houses.

Design in Mind is an original documentary series by the ICAA that profiles the careers of architects, artists, and designers. Bunny Williams - Not a House but a Home is the third installment in the series, following Robert A.M. Stern: Always a Student (2018) and On Location with James Ivory (2019).

This film was made possible by the estate of Christopher H. Browne and the Orville Gordon Browne Foundation.

Additional support for Bunny Williams - Not a House but a Home comes from LaPolla Designs
After a career spent making films inside beautiful historic houses, legendary director James Ivory allows the cameras to enter his own home for an intimate portrait of his life and career. Ivory speaks candidly about how architecture, particularly traditional architecture, has shaped his films. From the historic Hudson Valley home where many of his films were edited, to the decaying mansions of colonial India that inspired his early work, to the grand English country manors that characterize his most famous films, Ivory takes us on a journey through his career, which is shaped at every turn by the architecture of his surroundings.

Accompanied by illustrative scenes from his films, a private look inside his home, and never-before-seen photos provided by Ivory himself, On Location with James Ivory is the first documentary to chronicle the career of this award-winning filmmaker.

On April 26, 2023, the ICAA was pleased to welcome the award-winning landscape architect and author Janice Parker for a talk on garden rooms. From peristyle gardens and rose parterres to Hidcote Manor and beyond, her presentation explores the relationship between garden rooms, the landscape, and the architecture they surround. Garden designers discussed in this lecture include icons of the field such as Gertrude Jekyll, Ellen Biddle Shipman, Lawrence Johnston, Annette Hoyt Flanders, and Janice's mentor, John Brookes.

Presented as part of the Bunny Mellon Curricula at the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art. The ICAA is very grateful to the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation for its generous support of this program, along with the Continuing Education and Public Programs Sponsor Charlotte Moss, and the Curricula's Lead Sponsor Hollander Design Landscape Architects.
Andrew Skurman, principal at the Arthur Ross Award-winning firm Skurman Architects, was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. This short video, which offers insight into his approach to three distinct styles of classical architecture, was shown as part of the University's commencement ceremony, at which Andrew delivered a speech. Here, Andrew reflects on the unique expressions of the classical language that distinguish French, Georgian, and Mediterranean, accompanied by beautiful images of his firm's work.
