Outstanding Texans
Texan Soil Whisperers take 1st in Team Soil Pit contest at National's

The Texan Soil Whisperers returned to Woodward, Oklahoma to compete in the National Collegiate Soil Judging Competition after their victory at the Region IV Collegiate Soil Judging Competition—both hosted by Oklahoma State University.

Last October, the Soil Whisperers placed 2nd in the Team Pit and 3rd overall which solidified their spot to once again compete in the National round for the second year in a row.
Stock Horse Team places 3rd Overall at National Competition

The Tarleton State Stock Horse Team traveled to Amarillo, Texas for the National Intercollegiate Ranch & Stock Horse Competition on April 18-19, 2023. The team placed 3rd Overall in Division 1.

Maisen Avent placed 4th in the Non-Pro division and earned the Outstanding Freshman award! Daeleigh Patridge placed 3rd, and Bodie Vicars placed 9th in the limited division. Way to go Texans!

Tarleton Collegiate Farm Bureau Students Compete in State Contest

Tarleton State University was represented by 12 students in Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) 2023 Collegiate Discussion Meet, with a Texan taking home one of the top honors. Catherine Hall, who is majoring in agricultural services and development, earned fourth in the contest and a $750 cash prize.

The state contest, which is hosted by TFB’s Young Farmer & Rancher Advisory Committee, helps college students better understand issues facing all sectors of agriculture—farmers, ranchers, agribusinesses, the food supply chain and more.

Meat Judging Team wraps up 2023
The 2022-2023 Tarleton State University Meat Judging Team finished their spring judging semester on an all-time high! The team competed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Collegiate Meat Judging Contest at Martin Preferred Foods in Houston, TX. This group of students has put in many hours, miles, and work to help get the program back at a competitive level. We would like to thank the Animal Science Department, the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources and the Meat Judging Alumni for their support!

Study Abroad
Indonesia Study Abroad Opportunity
The Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources is offering a three-credit hour study abroad course from December 1st through December 17th, 2023. The class will visit different protected areas, religious and cultural sites, and the rainforests that serve as a classroom to learn about diverse wildlife and habitats, unique landscapes, and religion, culture, & socioeconomic issues in biodiversity conservation of the region.

Student Research Association Rodeo
Research Rodeo Scholarship Awarded to Animal Science Graduate Student
Dairy graduate students, Paige Bielamowicz, Lily Martin, and Lily Ollinger presented their research posters at the Student Research Association Research Rodeo. Paige Bielamowicz was one of two winners to receive a travel scholarship at the event. Her study is titled "Impacts of lameness on reproduction and milky yield of dairy cattle."
