August 2022
Welcome, Class of 2026!
On Friday, August 5, 2022, the medical school's class of 2026 were cloaked with their first doctor's white coat during the White Coat Ceremony. This time-honored event is celebrated at medical schools around the nation and symbolizes entry into the medical profession. This year's keynote speaker was Samer Fahmy, M.D., the Vice President, and Chief medical officer at Boca Regional Hospital, who also serves as an Affiliate Clinical Associate Professor and the Associate Clinical Dean for Academic Affairs at FAU.

Through the leadership of Michael T.B. Dennis, M.D., chair of the medical school's advisory board, each new medical student received their first stethoscope, generously donated by the Palm Beach County Medical Society. The stethoscope, a vital tool for conducting physical examinations, is one of the most enduring symbols of the medical profession.

12th Annual White Coats-4-Care Reception
On August 2, 2022 the Schmidt College of Medicine hosted the 12th Annual White Coats-4-Care Reception at the Schmidt Family Complex, generating a record-breaking $1,029,800 in medical student scholarship funds to support the incoming class of 2026. With the average cost of a medical education reaching $250,000 in-state to $400,000 out-of-state, 80-85% of the college's talented students require financial assistance. Heavy debt often impacts both a student’s choice of medical school as well as their medical specialty based on its income potential to repay loans. The college’s 12th class of 72 new medical students was selected based on both their academic accomplishments and humanistic attributes and that community remains at the forefront of the College of Medicine.

College of Medicine Pathway Programs
College of Medicine Pathway Programs congratulates and welcomes 2022-23 Medical Student Leaders Miguel Antonio Castro, Zeynep Elshaer, Ishan Handa, Sarinya Meknarit, and Lama Al Abdul Razzak. We look forward to a great year of activities for our 6 – 12 grade Pathway students under their facilitation. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to support these M2s and the young learners by volunteering soon and often!

Call for volunteers: Bridge to Medicine (BTM) is an 11-week program designed for juniors in high school who are interested in professional development and are highly motivated to enter the medical field. BTM focuses on professional development such as resume building, financial literacy, college essay writing, and research ethics/techniques. Each session will be on a Saturday morning and typically includes a brief lecture by an FAU faculty member followed by small-group problem-solving discussions led by medical students. We welcome volunteers who would like to participate in our sessions.

Specifically, we will be hosting an interviewing workshop for students on October 8 and would appreciate volunteers – students, staff, faculty, and residents - to help facilitate the mock interviews.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email our Pathway Programs’ BTM leaders,
