Reggaeton in the Woods

DJ Estrella will spin Latin beats to liven up the Woods in neon fashion to kickoff Amigos Latinos' celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month!

Dayton Hispanic Festival and Parade

Saturday, September 16, 11am-11pm; parade at 12pm

Riverscape Metro Park, 237 E Monument Ave, Dayton, Ohio


Kick off the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month by volunteering at Dayton's Hispanic Heritage Festival anytime between 11am-11pm. Enjoy Latin foods, live music, connecting with the local Latino community, and so much more! You can also join the Latino Center and the Amigos Latinos' float during the parade, which begins at 12pm. Hispanic Heritage Trivia Week

Increase your knowledge of Latino countries and leaders by visiting with the Amigos Latinos Student Association throughout the week. Answer trivia questions, provided by the School of Social Sciences and International Studies, for a chance to win raffle prizes!

Orange Shirt Day Tabling

Join IACSA in commemorating Orange Shirt Day--a day of remembrance for the Indigenous boarding schools and their legacies--on October 2. In preparation, they are selling paper shirts, wooden pins, and t-shirts priced from $1 to $25. All proceeds will go toward the WSU Native Student Scholarship Fund.

Women Faculty & Staff Rendezvous

This event, originally established in the 1990s to support women faculty in obtaining tenure, has been reimagined to create a sense of community, facilitate networking, and address the unique needs of women and gender-expansive faculty and staff. The event will feature light refreshments, an update on the state of women at Wright State, speed networking, and a discussion on how the Rendezvous can best serve the community.

The Black History Mobile Museum, founded by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, is a travelling exhibit of Arican-American history and culture featuring over 10,000 artifacts of Black memorabilia from the slavery to hip-hop culture. The tabletop exhibit will be open to faculty, staff, students and the WSU community.

The Amigos Latinos Gala is a night of food, dancing, live music, awards, and a silent auction, all while giving back to scholarships for Latino students at Wright State. The ANA Center seeks up to two highly motivated, energetic, organized, creative, and committed student assistants who are dedicated to supporting the mission of ANA. On a daily basis, student assistants will interact with faculty, staff, students, and other visitors to the Culture and Identity Centers and the ANA Center. Student assistants are expected to be personable, timely, organized, work in a diverse environment, have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, demonstrate excellent customer service, be able to follow through with assigned tasks, communicate with AD about needed support and clarification; and have a clear understanding of the services and mission of ANA. Introduction to International Education Workshop Series

Apply by September 30; workshops run October through March


Up to two students will be selected to represent WSU in the Ohio International Consortium's "Introduction to International Education" Workshop Series. This series is designed for students curious about careers in international education but who have not yet had an international experience. Participants will explore careers in international education, have an opportunity to job shadow and network with leaders in the field, and learn how to document this experience during their job search. Students who complete the program will be reimbursed for the cost of their first passport. Follow the link above for full details and to apply. AAPI Virtual Career Fair

Sponsored by Asian American Dreams and the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership, this virtual career fair is an opportunity for current undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, and young professionals, to engage with employers across a variety of public and private sectors. Participants have the opportunity to schedule 1:1 interviews and informational group sessions with employers. This event is free for all attendees.

Volunteer with NCCJ Teen Summit

Register by September 30


The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) of Greater Dayton's Teen Summit provides high school students with resources and skills that they can utilize to make changes in their school around topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This year, the theme is "Stigma: Overcoming Discrimination and Supporting Healing." Teen Summit will host 20 high schools in the Greater Miami Valley region. The Teen Summit encourages students to build networks of passionate youth leaders in their district. As a group, these leaders build projects to impact their district and community. NCCJ is in need of motivated college volunteers to help facilitate. Facilitators are responsible for leading their assigned group of high school students through the exercises as they work through the curriculum. Volunteer trainings are available October 10 and 12, the Teen Summit is on October 19. There were a lot of smiles and cheers from Wright State University students as the new Cultural and Identity Centers space was officially opened in the Student Union on August 30.
