An Awesome Change is Coming to our Calendar of Events & Museum Passes!!
We are very excited to announce that on the morning of Thursday, November 3rd we are switching over to a new Calendar of Events software, Assabet Interactive.

You'll notice a different look to the calendar, but, we'll have the same great programs and events on it.

To get to the calendar you still go to the Events menu on the top of the page, and click on Calendar of Events in the drop down menu. You'll then be taken to our new look calendar!

In preparation for the switchover we do ask that if you need to register for any programs on Wednesday, November 2nd please give us a call at 978-686-0480 instead and we'll be happy to do the registering for you.

And, for anyone worried, there is no need for you to re-register yourself or your children for any of the programs that you've already signed up for, those registrations will carry over into the new software.
At the same time that we switch over to a new Calendar you'll also see a brand new way to reserve your museum passes. and the change will also take place on the morning of November 3rd.

The way to get to the passes will stay the same. On the front page of our site on the upper right when you click on the link that reads Passes, you'll be taken right to our new Museum Passes interface.

It works much as the previous software did, and you'll still need to have an active library card in Methuen or the surrounding Massachusetts communities to reserve a pass.

Also, in honor of this switchover we've changed the Museum Pass rules just a tiny bit, you'll now be able to take out one pass every month. Thank you Friends of the Library!

And, like with the Event Registrations, in preparation for the switchover we ask that if you need to reserve a museum pass on Wednesday, November 2nd please give us a call at 978-686-0480 instead and we'll be happy to reserve it for you.

Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week Necessities Collection
October 24 -- November 22

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is an annual program where people come together across the country to draw attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness.

Here at Nevins Library, we are aware that there are many members in our community that do not have enough food to eat or a safe place to live. And so we will be collecting items to donate to the “Dinner on the Streets” sponsored by The Movement Family.

Please bring the items to the library where there will be a donation box near the Main Desk.

All items will be handed out to those in need during the Thanksgiving Wednesday night dinner on November 23.

The items we are collecting are as follows:
socks - mens, womens
gloves and hats - mens, womens
warm blankets - any size
toiletries - deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste

Thank you for your help!

The Friends are joining with The Chateau Restaurant in Andover for another yummy fundraiser.

Dine (or even order take out!) at The Chateau on November 15, and a portion of your bill will go to support the Friends of the Library and their fundraising efforts.

In addition to their great support of library programming, museum passes and more, the Friends are also raising money to complete the beautiful garden area near the front entrance to the library.

What's Happening in Youth Services?
The Giving Tree Returns, a Name Change, and More!
As we head into the holiday season, we want to say how thankful we are to all the patrons who participate in our programs and events -- it is truly a joy to see young children and teens (and their parents!) enjoy being here.

And speaking of being thankful, here's an opportunity to make a lot of children very happy: once again, we are sponsoring a gift drive to benefit homeless children and teens in the Merrimack Valley who are served by Emmaus, Inc. Last year our wonderful patrons were able to meet every wish, and we hope to match that success this year!

If you’d like to help, just drop by the Youth Services department, look over our Giving Tree to choose a Wish List item to purchase, and put the gift (unwrapped) under our tree by December 17 (we’ll deliver them to Emmaus). Thank you!!!!

Did you notice our name change above? We're now calling ourselves Youth Services (instead of Children’s Department) because we've folded teen programs into the mix -- our Teen Librarian, Alison, helps staff the Children’s Desk now as well, so we hope you get to meet her soon.

Alison's programs for teens and tweens are now included on our print and online calendar -- be sure to check out her great programs for your older kids!

And for your younger children, of course we're offering our usual array of storytimes, book clubs, crafting opportunities, and infant and toddler programs.

Keep an eye on our calendar and Facebook page to learn the latest about programs and special events -- there's always something interesting going on!

Happy November, and Happy Reading!
