SANTA ANA WINDS

As many of you know, Rancho Cucamonga is no stranger to the Santa Ana winds. Strong winds and dry weather contribute to extreme fire weather conditions and can initiate Red Flag Warnings and power outages. It is important for our community to be #ReadyRC by following these tips:

  • Your household may be subject to a Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) administered by Southern California Edison (SCE) when fire weather conditions are dangerous. These power shutoffs are managed by SCE and are a “proactive attempt to protect against wildfires sparking.” The City of Rancho Cucamonga and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District are here to encourage our community to make sure your information with SCE is up to date by visiting their website and signing up for alerts.

  • Protect your home by creating defensible space around it which includes low growing plants with high moisture content. Remove dead branches or trees and clear weeds and dry vegetation from around your property. Roofs and eaves are also vulnerable to flying embers in a wildfire, so be sure to clean your rain gutters and inspect your attic roof vents for proper installation and integrity. If you are asked to evacuate, please follow the order and remove yourself and your household from the home to a safer location.

  • Enable Emergency Alert Notifications on your mobile device by turning them on in your device settings. This ensures that you'll receive critical updates from the City or Fire District, especially when it comes to essential information about wildfire threats and evacuations. We're here to help keep you safe and informed!

  • Follow the City of Rancho Cucamonga and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District on Facebook and Twitter to receive non-emergency information about weather and wind events. A social media account is not needed to find these websites.

  • Download the RC2GO app, which is available for Apple and Android devices to report non-emergency weather-related issues. If you have an emergency issue to report, such as suspicious fire activity, please call 9-1-1.

History has shown that it’s not a matter of if a wildfire will threaten our community, but when it will happen again. Learn more about wildfire preparedness and what to do in an emergency by visiting ReadyRC.org or quickly download our digital Ready RC Emergency Preparedness Guide by clicking the button below.
