Dear CPWC members,
As we kick off the 2023-2024 CPWC year with a variety of daytime and evening monthly activities through May, we hope you will renew your annual membership. Your membership and support are crucial to our organization and very much appreciated. Without your support, we would not be able to offer these opportunities.
All the various interest groups will start their activities in September, so be sure to check the dates and locations either on the website, newsletter, or Facebook.
Angela Boardman, Charity Chair, presented three different charities to the Executive Board at our August meeting and we voted to support PORCH Marietta for this year. You can learn more about PORCH from Angela in this newsletter.
The Newcomers Committee hosted their annual Newcomers Party on August 20 at the home of Jean Ann and Barry McCarthy. Many thanks to Jean Ann McCarthy and Regina Wood for the time and effort they put into this event. There were about 6 new couples who attended and were able to learn about the CPWC along with the CPCA. We look forward to welcoming these new women into our wonderful community.
We hope you all enjoy your Labor Day weekend. We look forward to our official start of CPWC activities the following week.

PORCH Marietta

Neighbors helping neighbors. PORCH Marietta was started in response to the growing rate of food “insecurity” caused by the pandemic. Food security is a household’s ability to access nutritious foods. According to Feeding America, about 65k Cobb County residents are food “insecure”.
There are individual PORCH communities all over the country. Friends and neighbors were looking for a way to make a difference in our community. PORCH Marietta gives people the opportunity to make an immediate impact in our community by providing an ongoing and stable supply of food to pantries and program participants in our neighborhood.
PORCH is built around the very simple idea of regular neighborhood food drives. The donations are then delivered to The Center for Family Resources, Brumby Elementary Food Pantry, Sawyer Road Elementary Food Pantry, and Lockheed Elementary Food Pantry.
We are thrilled to be able to support this wonderful charity. Soon we will announce all the fun and exciting ways CPWC will support this charity throughout the coming year!

September Major League SECOND Friday

September's First Friday falls on the Friday prior to Labor Day Weekend, so we are gathering for Major League SECOND Friday on Friday, September 8, 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the Fulkerson's, 146 East Blackland Ct. We'll be outside around the pool so dress accordingly. Enter via the path that is on the left side of the house going to the backyard.
Come casually dressed in your Atlanta Braves fan gear or your favorite team. TVs will be on for the Braves-Pirates game.
As always, please bring your favorite beverage and an appetizer to share.

The Evening group (formerly known as Savvy Women) will kick off the year with a fun-filled Cocktail & Mocktail Night on Tuesday, September 12, at 6:30 pm. Come join us at Missy Malmberg’s house, 4530 Ponte Vedra Drive.
Learn how to make a strawberry kiwi-infused vodka and sip some enticing cocktails creatively prepared by Tyler, an Atlanta Country Club bartender. Not only is Tyler an accomplished mixologist, he is also delightful and charming, so don't miss this one!

Painting and Crafts Interest Group

Please join us at Maryam Shirazi's home at 4503 Chattahoochee Plantation Dr. at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 5 to paint canvases or other items like wine glasses. Maryam has been a painter for over 40 years and can work with beginning painters or help perfect the techniques of more experienced painters. Maryam will supply canvases, brushes, and paint for a nominal fee.

We are bringing back the "Yard of the Month" beginning in October. A "Yard of the Month" sign will be posted for the month. All Garden Club members may submit their vote to: Lynn Thompson by the 1st of each month. The criteria are:
*If your neighbor keeps a well-groomed yard on a daily basis, and
*Must be in the boundaries of the CPWC, but does not have to a CPWC member's yard.

CPWC Hiking Group kicks off 2023/2024 at East Palisades Indian Trail in Sandy Springs! Explore 3 miles of quiet wooded trails, rocky outcroppings, the Chattahoochee River shore, and forest creeks. See blue herons, ducks, geese, and deer. Bring water and a snack. Wear supportive footwear. Come as you are for this relaxed, down-to-earth morning hike.
