Adopt A Pet from the Lassen County Animal Shelter – Mici

Mr. Mici is so very handsome and draws a lot of ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhhs’ from visitors. Yes, staff agrees that he’s a looker, however this sweet boy is going to need a home with an experienced dog owner. Someone who has the time to put into not only getting Mici adequate daily exercise, but to first gain his trust and then focus on helping him gain some much needed confidence.

This boy is toy crazy. Once he knows and trusts you, he will fetch and bring back whatever toy you feel like throwing for him. Over and over again. He’s intense and athletic, ready to learn and grow under the guidance of a suitable adopter.

Evaluations still need to be done to see how Mici gets along with other shelter dogs. Due to his initial timid and uncertain nature, staff recommends children in his perspective home to be respectful and 13+.

Mici estimated to be about 2 years old. He’s neutered, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative, and microchipped. If interested in meeting Mici, or other adoptable animals, please contact the Lassen County Animal Shelter at (530) 257-9200.

Additional: If there are dogs already in the home, it is suggested that potential adopters bring them to the shelter to do a meet and greet with the new dog.

In observance of Labor Day, the Lassen County Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, September 4th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 5th

If interested in Clover and Carmela, please call Lassen County Animal Shelter staff at 530.257.9200.

Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Current shelter hours during the COVID-19 pandemic are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 257-9200.

Firehall Ceremony to Mark 22 Years

Since September 11th tragedy

Acting Susanville City Fire Tom Hernandez is inviting the public to join the department in a commemoration of the firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other innocent victims whose lives were ended by the tragic terrorist attack of September 11th, 2001.

The Susanville Fire Department is joining with remembrances being held all across the country on the morning of September 11th.

“This year marks 22 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and we believe it is essential to come together as a community to remember and pay our respects,” said Hernandez.

“Our September 11th Remembrance Ceremony aims to bring our community together to reflect, remember, and show gratitude for the courage and resilience displayed by so many during and after the events of 9/11.”

Just before 7:00a.m. the group will assemble in front of the fire hall’s flagpole, the Honor Guard will present the colors and there will be a moment of silence and a prayer. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7:05a.m.

Of the 2,977 people killed in the September 11th attacks, 412 were emergency workers in New York City who responded to the World Trade Center.

Roop’s Fort in the late 1860’s from the archives of the Nevada Historical Society.

From Honey Lake

September 4, 1859

We are informed that up to a recent date about 1200 emigrant wagons had passed through Susanville, Honey Lake, this season, and some 4,000 souls. May of these emigrants have found their way into Shasta county.

A few days since several wagons with a number of men, women and children, looking dusty and way-worn, drove into our town.

We welcome these tired travelers. Having made the same trip, away back in 1849, we know how they feel, and congratulate them that their toilsome trip has ended.

At the time our Honey Lake correspondent wrote, the market stood thus: Flour 10 cents per pound, potatoes 6c., bacon 35c., beef 15c., coffee 35c. Wages from one to five dollars per day. Stock low.
