Nevins Summer Hours

Mon. - Thurs. 9am-9pm
Fri. - 9am-5pm
Closed Sat. and Sun. beginning June 18 2016
June heats up here at the library...we've got the kick off to the Summer Reading program that engages kids from all the schools in Methuen.  They'll be reading and logging their time to receive beads and rewards for all the time they read.  There are even some beads for the adults in the crowd so check out the incentives for reading.  In addition we'll have a yarn swap, a new activity but something so fun for those knitters and needle workers in the community.  In addition we'll welcome author Juliette Fay to Nevins to talk about her latest novel.  Hope you'll stop by and check out all the great goings on here this month...and maybe a book or two for vacation!!
Summer Reading is Just around the Corner!!

School's almost out, but you'll want to keep reading! Once again the Children's Department will be offering its popular Read and Bead incentive program: beginning on June 3, you can sign up for an online reading log and then keep track of how much you read to earn beautiful beads and to qualify for prizes! Our June calendar is chock-full of special programs, including visits from Mr. Vinny and his shadow puppets, Dinoman and his giant inflatable dinosaurs, and Rainforest Reptiles.

Juliette Fay - Author
June 11 7pm

We are excited to welcome author Juliette Fay to the Nevins Library!  She will be here to talk about her latest book, City of Flickering Light, which promises to transport the reader back to the Golden Age of Hollywood and the raucous Roaring Twenties, as three friends struggle to earn their places among the stars of the silent screen.  Books will be available for purchase.

Yarn Swap
June 8 2019 10am

Did you know that Saturday June 8th is "World Knit in Public Day"?  We'd like to invite all knitters to come and knit at the library for the day.  The library is filled with pleasant places to sit and knit inside and out - and meet some fellow knitters!  To help celebrate the day, we will be hosting our first ever Yarn Swap at 10am.  Bring your leftover but good, clean yarn and leave with a new yarn to try!  We will draw numbers for the order of choosing your new yarn, like a Yankee Swap.

Krispy Kreme's are back again this year!
June 19th after 1pm

It's on again this year...you know you love them ...you know you want them.  The Friends is again sponsoring their annual fund raiser to satisfy your sweet tooth and your craving for those scrumptious donuts.  The cost for these yummy morsels is $10 / dozen and they must be pre-ordered and paid for at time of order, prior to the June 19 date.

There will be some additional dozens on hand for purchase if you realize one dozen just won't cut it....and if you just want one (really?!)  there will be coffee and donuts to purchase during the day.

Fun times to kick off the summer, so come join us and pick up a dozen or more donuts and support the library at the same time! Link
Super Power Point Presentations
June 8 3pm

Come to the Nevins to learn how to make your presentations pop at the next meeting with your peers.  We'llgo over the basics as well as look at some really neat ways to punch up the presentation with different effects, and transitions.  This is a great way to learn how to produce more enticing and effective communication tools for advancement in the workplace.

Summer - the best time to try out your eBooks

Big things are happening in the land of eBooks. Methuen patrons are now able to find ebooks and audiobooks from other library networks statewide. No longer are we limited to the MVLC collection only! Although it is better to search for material in the MVLC collection first, if you can't find anything there, you can search in the other networks and check eBooks or audiobooks out on your Methuen card. Contact the Reference desk (978 686-4080 x13) for more information on how to access these collections.

Also, have you heard about Libby. This new ap for your devices is much more user friendly and easier to manage than the previous Overdrive interface. Libby is a great way to search for items and manage your digital loans and holds all in one place. Check it out here and contact the reference desk if you have any questions about this new ap.

Overdrive has also made a special collection of Lonely Planet Travel Guides available just in time for the summer vacation season. These guides, which are always available, range from European vacation destinations to some state and city guides in the US. Using the Libby ap, search Overdrive for the special collection. These guides are great to have on your device and they allow you to link to places right from your phone or tablet, which is a huge help when you are traveling in a strange place.

As always, the Reference Staff would be happy to help you get started on your eBook adventure!!

Please be sure to check our website - Nevinslibrary.org  for many more exciting programs and services for all ages.  We're here for you!
