2023 Community Grant Cycle Awards

The Yampa Valley Community Foundation has awarded $541,980 to 70 nonprofits in its 2023 Community Grant Cycle. This year's grant cycle was on par with 2022 in both total funds allocated (+$10,000), nonprofits supported (70 vs 74) and allocation by sector. Eighty six percent of total dollars requested was funded.

Of the total dollars granted:

  • $147,741 went to 24 organizations for program grants.
  • $196,790 was awarded to 32 nonprofits for unrestricted general operating grants.
  • $90,000 ($7,500 each) was granted to 12 organizations for a third and final year of general operating multiyear grants.
  • Four organizations received a total of $107,449 in Impact grants for projects that will be transformative for our community and/or the organization.

The annual Community Grant Cycle at YVCF is made possible due to generous partnerships with the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp, Donor Advised Fund advisors, and community volunteers who support the process financially and with their time and expertise.

The Cycle not only distributes funds to nonprofits in the Yampa Valley but also opens doors for conversations about how YVCF can further support nonprofits with training and capacity building. The robust grant evaluation process - which includes reviewing nonprofit financials and on-site visits of every applicant - truly gives YVCF insight into successes and challenges nonprofits are having. We invite you to read about a challenge faced by Moffat County's Community Budget Center that was identified and resolved during this year's grant review process.

Featured New Funds

In collaboration with Yampa Valley Regional Airport, the nonprofit The Good Traveler, and the Routt County Climate Action Plan Collaborative, YVCF has opened the Routt County Climate Action Collaborative Fund. The fund was created to facilitate carbon offsets by travelers to Northwest Colorado and to support hyper-local projects working to mitigate the impacts of climate change, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030 and 74% by 2050.

Travelers can use the Good Traveler site to donate to the fund or donate directly through YVCF's website. The Routt County Climate Action Plan Collaborative Board will serve as the grant committee to recommend distributions for local projects.

Offset Your Travel

Hans Geier (1933-2023), president of the Steamboat Ski Area from 1981-1990 and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame awardee, was a bright, innovative, caring man who looked for opportunities to help others and contributed greatly to the world around him. He valued education, an opportunity he didn't personally have access to due to WWII.

Donations to the Hans Geier Memorial Scholarship will support scholarships through the Yampa Tuition Grants Fund to benefit students with financial need from Routt and Moffat Counties in their pursuit of post-secondary education.
