Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

The 23-24 School Year is off to a great start. We are excited about the new school year and welcome all our new families in grades K-8. Thanks to our families who were able to join us at intake conferences last week. We had nearly 100% participation in these conferences. It was also pleasure to see so many K-2 families at last Friday morning’s “Popsicles on the Playground” event. We found these events to be productive ways to start our year together. We hope you did too...

Everyone is working on settling into new routines, start of the year assessments and new schedules. Grade 3 through 8 will take the ITBS (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills) next week from Tuesday through Friday. These scores will be used to develop Individual Student Learning Improvement Plans (ISLIPS) which will be developed and sent home later this fall. Students will be testing in the following areas: Reading, Vocabulary, Conventions of Writing, Spelling, Written Expression, Math Concepts and Math Computation.   Students in grades 3, 5 and 7 will also take the CoGAT which will provide feedback on students, verbal, quantitative and non-verbal (spatial awareness) skills. We encourage you to have your students get plenty of rest and have a good breakfast to start their day prior to testing. Make-up testing will be scheduled as needed.  Please feel free to reach out should you have questions.

After 19 years of dedicated service to the district, Barb Flaws is retiring to have more time to spend caring for her family. She will be missed in the BASE program and as a program assistant. We wish her all the best as she begins this new chapter in her life.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Nikki Spencer as the BASE director. She is joined by Mr. Leo Karris. Ms. Spencer and Mr. Karris also are program assistants during the regular school day. Ms. Spencer worked in the BASE program last year as an assistant and has a terrific working knowledge of the program.

We also welcome Ms. Lori and Ms. Veronda who will be helping out daily with lunch and recess supervision. You may recognize them as some of our Olson Transportation Company drivers.

We will begin our regular Falcon Flyer Schedule next week. Please look for it on Wednesday evenings and it will be resent to those who have not opened it on Fridays.

Thank you in advance for your partnership and engagement this year. We have an exciting year planned for 23-24. It should be a memorable school year. Take care...Until next time...

Libertyville Fire Department’s 50th Annual Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest

It is that time of year again for our Libertyville Fire Department poster contest. This year’s topic will be “Cooking Safety Starts With You! Pay attention to fire prevention.” Each class will receive First, Second, and Honorable Mention ribbons. A trophy will then be awarded to one student in each grade out of all the schools. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the best overall poster. The Grand Champion will then move to the next round for a Regional Champion. The Grand Champion will be competing against other neighboring schools. The school with the highest participation will receive a participation trophy. Culver’s will provide a gift to award winning posters. This year’s theme and rules are attached, and must be followed or the poster faces disqualification.

Please have your student’s poster dropped off at their school no later than October 5th for judging. For any questions, please call Libertyville Fire Station I at (847) 362-5664.
