Milwaukee County Historical Society Hands-on History Programs for Students!
The Milwaukee County Historical Society offers free educational in-school programs and paid field trips. Let’s talk about the free programs first.
We all know that schools have a tight budget. Money for buses and field trips are hard to find. We offer free Hands-on History lessons for all third – fifth grade students in Milwaukee County. Public, private, charter, doesn’t matter. These one-hour, inquiry based, interactive lessons right in your school building, are just right for classrooms that need a spark in their social studies curriculum to help them learn about Wisconsin and their hometown, Milwaukee. MCHS strongly feels that for students to value where they live, they need to learn its history.

- Making Waves in Lake Michigan
Brand new to our programs are for Grade Three classrooms. Lessons start in January.

- Milwaukee Works
These Milwaukee lessons are directly related to the Making of Milwaukee Curriculum.
Why should you have Hands-on History come to your school? Last year, 2022-2023 school year, my intern and I reached about 4,000 students in over 170 classrooms and made 103 school visits all over Milwaukee. Most of those teachers asked for more than one lesson because they believed that the students were engaged, remembered the content, the lessons were following the required standards, and having a consistent guest teacher helps the students to make connections and value the program.
