New Month, New Beginnings

Dear Hoboken,

We're thrilled to kick off the month with some fantastic news. This November, we are partnering with Community Lifestyle to launch a new mentorship program. This program is designed to provide valuable guidance and support to teens and young adults as they strive for success. A team of experienced mentors will be available on Wednesdays from 3:30pm - 4:30pm, working closely with participants to help them achieve their goals and unlock their full potential.

We are also pleased to provide an excellent opportunity for teens to volunteer at the library. This program not only allows teens to collaborate with our library staff but also provides a platform for learning new skills and earning valuable volunteer hours for school. Volunteer hours are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 6:00pm. To participate, please complete a volunteer form from school and return it to our staff in the Teen Room at 500 Park Ave.

As always, our dedication to serving our community is unwavering, and we strive to provide a wide range of resources and services to our patrons. Check out this month's hoopla BingePass and take advantage of our free museum pass program. With our library's diverse resources and programming, there is truly something for everyone!

Regards,

The River We Remember: A Novel

by William Kent Krueger

"On Memorial Day, as the people of Jewel, Minnesota gather to remember and honor the sacrifice of so many sons in the wars of the past, the half-clothed body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. Investigation of the murder falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service. Even before Dern has the results of the autopsy, vicious rumors begin to circulate that the killer must be Noah Bluestone, a Native American WWII veteran who has recently returned to Jewel with a Japanese wife. As suspicions and accusations mount and the town teeters on the edge of more violence, Dern struggles not only to find the truth of Quinn's murder but also put to rest the demons from his own past."

The Lost Wife: A Novel

by Susanna Moore

"Minnesota, 1862: As a woman fleeing from a dark and secret past, Sarah Wakefield leaves Rhode Island quietly and quickly under cover of night for the long journey to Minnesota where she has been advised there is good work to be had. She soon finds a husband who becomes a resident physician for a Sioux town there but the political backdrop of that moment is volatile: white settlers are breaking treaties, Native American land is shrinking, and mass starvation and disease looms over the Sioux community. As the war erupts around her, Sarah is separated from her husband, and rescued by the Sioux who are seeking safety from the fighting, and ultimately a home that was stolen from them. She will heroically but unsuccessfully try to protect them during the Dakota Trial that ensues. Intimate, raw, compelling and brilliantly subversive, Susanna Moore explores a complicated history of female captivity and Native American suffering."
