Eagle Scout Fence Project Presentation

Joshua A. Rodgers of Troop 36 Pearl River made a presentation to the Town Board on Tuesday night about his Eagle Scout Service Project. The project includes installing two fences and performing landscaping at the James H. Anderson American Legion Post #1199 in Orangeburg.

Orangetown’s First Pollinator Garden

With the support of the Shade Tree Commission and the Environmental Committee, members of our community created a pollinator garden with native plantings on the Joseph B. Clarke Rail Trail in Sparkill near Depot Square. The project is a first step in establishing a Pollinator Pathway in Orangetown by encouraging the planting of native species to support the local ecosystem. Pollinator Pathways are pesticide-free corridors of native plants, trees and shrubs that provide nutrition and habitat for pollinating species, such as butterflies and birds.

Many thanks to all of the enthusiastic volunteers who braved the heat to install the garden, as well as Mary Ellen LeWarn of Ironwood Garden Design for contributing her expertise and design skills, Organic Recycling for donating soil for the bed, and our Parks and Recreation Maintenance Department for preparing the bed for planting. We would also like to give a very special thanks to Maria Passarotti for spearheading the project.

Orangetown Police Department

Schools out for summer, and we want to ensure a safe and enjoyable break for all our children. Here are some important safety reminders from your local police department:

Drivers, be extra vigilant on the roads. Watch for children playing, riding bikes, or walking near streets. Observe speed limits, and always scan your surroundings for young pedestrians. Let's protect our little ones!

Summer means pool time. Parents and guardians, keep a close eye on children while they swim. Always have a responsible adult present and enforce water safety rules. Let's make sure fun in the water stays safe and worry-free for everyone.

Home safety matters. Secure hazardous materials, like cleaning products and medications, out of children's reach. Maintain a safe environment both inside and outside your home to prevent accidents and protect our little adventurers.

Educate your children about stranger danger and personal boundaries. Encourage open communication, teaching them to recognize and respond to potentially dangerous situations. Empowering them with knowledge is a vital step in their safety journey.

Together, we can work to create a secure environment. Stay safe, look out for one another, and have a wonderful summer!
