Mental Health Corner
Hello Stedman Knights and Friends of Stedman!
My name is Ms. Stephanie, and I'm your new school social worker. Alongside Dr. Jenn, our school psychologist, a school social worker is a special role that provides counseling, supports kids and families in a crisis and nourishes mental health throughout the whole school. I'm also a Park Hill parent and have two kids of my own in Denver Public Schools, and we're all so excited and nervous for back to school time. I know every evening I'll ask the eternal question of "what did you do at school today?" and I'll get back "I don't remember" "not much" or "nothing"- which I know isn't true! So, this year, I'm going to try and use some of these questions at dinner or on the walk home to get a little more out of my wee scholars.
1. Tell me your "apple" and "onion" or the best and the worst part of your day.
2. What was the funniest thing that happened today?
3. Who did you sit with at lunch? What do you like about them?
4. What books did you read in class today?
5. What's something you did today that you're proud of?
6. Show or tell me something new that you learned.
7. What is something that you're grateful for today? (a former supervisor told me- "gratitude weaves happiness in the brain")
I'll be out and about in classrooms this week, so if you see me come say hello!
- Ms. Stephanie
- Sra. Stephanie
