BIOGRAPHIES

Nina James

ESG Executive


Nina recently led ESG in Asia Pacific for Blackstone Real Estate. In this role, Nina was responsible for the design and delivery of the global RE ESG strategy as it pertains to the Asia Pac region, including the carbon emissions target pathways and broader sustainability programmes across the RE Asia business. These include investor, staff, industry, and asset engagement programmes across the region. Nina currently sits on the ULI Australia Executive Counsel, is a Trustee of ULI Asia, and is a member of the Global Standards Committee for GRESB. Nina holds a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture and a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from the University of New South Wales and a Certificate in Sustainable Finance from Columbia University, NY.


Danielle Permezel

Head of Legal, BNP Asset Management


Danielle Permezel, BNP Paribas Asset Management Australia, Head of Legal Dani Permezel, Head of Legal, BNP Paribas Asset Management Australia Limited, since 2012. Dani is responsible for legal risk management across the firm’s activities in Australia, including advising on regulatory reforms, governance, the retail product life cycle, and contractual negotiations. Dani has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, and has held senior roles in private practice at law firms including Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons), and in-house at fund managers including HSBC Asset Management Australia and VFMC. Dani has also been the firm’s Company Secretary since 2016.


James Tayler

Head of Responsible Investment, Insignia Financial


James was appointed Insignia Financials' Head of Responsible Investing in June 2022. In this role he is accountable for facilitating a high quality and constantly evolving Responsible Investing strategy across all investment capabilities. He is focussed on driving the development and articulation of our position in key areas such as identifying and managing ESG risks and opportunities, maximising the effectiveness of engagement with managers and companies, and also has a strong focus on climate change, modern slavery, and governance. Previously, James was Head of ESG at Ellerston Capital, a listed equity-focused investment boutique. Prior to relocating to Australia in 2016, James held various investment management roles in London, UK, and Zurich, Switzerland, representing a 20-year career in listed equity investment including with one of the early PRI signatories.


Lucy Steed

CEO, Melior Investments


Lucy is the CEO and Co-Founder of Melior Investment Management, a specialist Australian equities manager focused on delivering competitive returns and positive social and environmental impact. Lucy has 20 years’ experience working at leading fund managers, investment banks and management consulting firms in Sydney, London and New York. Prior to setting up her own impact consulting company, Lucy held senior positions at BT Financial Group and AMP Capital. In 2023, Lucy was recognised in The Australian's Top 100 Green Power Players List. Lucy is a Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Board member of the St Catherine’s School Foundation. Lucy received a Master of Commerce (Finance and Banking) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Marketing) from the University of Sydney.
