Election 2023 ballots are in the mail.

Here’s what Coloradans need to know to cast their vote.

Election Day is Nov. 7. Voters will decide on two statewide ballot measures,

as well as local school board and municipal contests.

No, Proposition HH doesn’t raise property taxes.

But it’s unlikely to cut them as much as supporters say.

The Colorado Sun fact-checked misleading claims made by both sides on the 2023 Colorado ballot measure

"To hear Colorado’s political campaigns fight over Proposition HH, the 10-year property tax relief plan on the November ballot, one would think they were describing alternate universes. In one telling, Proposition HH would lead to the largest property tax hike in the state’s history, and take away state tax refunds owed under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights to boot. In another, the ballot measure would save the average homeowner $600 every year, directing more help to working families and seniors who are struggling the most with the state’s rising cost of living ..." - READ MORE

Fact check: Would Proposition HH really eliminate Coloradans’ taxpayer refunds?

"The opponents of Proposition HH, the 10-year property tax relief plan on the November ballot, say the measure would “end” refunds owed to Coloradans’ by the state under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights. Supporters argue the initiative would “preserve” them. Both claims are misleading. Here’s a Colorado Sun fact check of how Proposition HH would affect TABOR refunds ..." - READ MORE

Colorado property taxes explained:

Will that 40 percent value jump really mean 40 percent higher taxes?

"Coloradans received some truly eye-opening letters from their county governments this year. In parts of Western Colorado, the taxable value of the average home is 55 percent higher than just a couple years ago. It was an 80 percent average increase for Pitkin County. On the Front Range, Douglas County homes have gained 40 percent in value. Those were the outliers, but not by much. The average Colorado home gained 37 percent in value over just two years, according to preliminary data analyzed by CPR News ..." - READ MORE

Criticisms of Medicare Advantage Marketing Continue

"A recent blog about advertisements for Medicare Advantage policies brought a torrent of criticisms from our readers that the ads flooding the airwaves and mailboxes are too vague and even misleading. "What we do to seniors – most of whom have contributed for years to fund Medicare – should be an embarrassment to us, as a nation," one reader wrote about the tactics used to sell Advantage plans. A common complaint from another reader: "How do I get them to quit calling sometimes ten times a day?" The sales pitches are also getting the attention of the federal government and research and advocacy organizations, because Advantage plans have grown to half of the market for Medicare insurance policies. Two newly released reports by researchers found support for older Americans’ complaints that the high-pressure sales tactics are both misleading and fail to provide information about two crucial aspects of their coverage: out-of-pocket costs and benefits ..." - READ MORE
