OpenNotes Welcomes First Chief Innovation Officer

As OpenNotes’ first Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. Om Lala is leading our strategic efforts to expand the real-world impact of open notes and to articulate a vision for the future of transparency in healthcare.

“As the health care industry increasingly copes with advancements in AI and health policy that mandates further transparency, I think we’re uniquely positioned to help society harness the immense benefits that come with people having easier access to their medical records.” — Om Lala, MD, MBA, MPhil

Safety2gether Project Funded by AHRQ
"We know shared mental models (SMMs) of the diagnostic process (DxP) can help prevent errors. But we don't know much about how patients and health care professionals develop and maintain these mental models. The Safety2gether team aims to fill that gap and develop tools to help patients, care partners, interpreters, and clinicians work together better during the diagnostic process."

OpenNoter Goes to The White House
Last week, Liz Salmi, a brain tumor patient, health services researcher, and a nationally-recognized patient advocate, delivered a compelling address at the White House Forum on Glioblastoma (GBM) & Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), underscoring the importance of transparency in healthcare and its positive impact on patients.

What We're Reading
The Curious Side Effects of Medical Transparency
When we peer into our patient portals, we don’t always see ourselves more clearly.

Our Thoughts
"In the final anecdote of this recent essay... Dr. Ofri perfectly illustrates what we hoped would be one of the effects of greater transparency. ... Dr. Ofri had an open conversation with her patient focused around his wants and needs for information. Then she proceeded to honor those wishes."

We are so proud of our co-founder, Dr. Tom Delbanco!

Since we have a front row seat to all his accomplishments, we are not surprised he has been awarded the John Phillips Memorial Award for outstanding, lifetime work in clinical medicine.
