Tell us about your business? Project LIFT is a non-profit organization that provides therapy to at-risk teens and young adults through the unique platform of vocational training. At no cost, 14-21-year-old young men and women engage in hands on training in skilled trades while licensed therapists provide mental health counseling and substance abuse treatment. This strategy, which we call “Therapy Under the Hood of a Car” features skilled mentors in auto repair, HVAC, welding, carpentry & construction, and more! Our apprentice style paid training in the skilled trades allows for job placement and a pathway to economic self-sufficiency. We also offer an on-site fully accredited high school diploma program.
Does your business have a mission/vision? Yes, Project LIFT is dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk teens and their families through treatment of substance use disorders, mental health counseling, mentoring, and vocational skills training.
Tell us about your management team. Our leadership team is made up of a diverse group of clinical, operational, and development professionals from the 3 counties we serve, including some who grew up in the Belle Glade area.
Why did you decide to join the chamber? It is our goal to connect more deeply with businesses and other service providers in Belle Glade, so that we can foster relationships and partnerships that can benefit both the youth we serve and the businesses in the community.
Is there something special about your business that you would like to share? More than 3000 young men and women have benefited from Project LIFT programming across Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach Counties. If you would like to take a tour of our Belle Glade location and learn more about what we do, please contact us.
Name a “fun fact” about your business. Carpentry and construction students at Project LIFT Belle Glade can build picnic tables, adirondack chairs, and other custom items for your home or business. All proceeds from the sale of these items go directly back to supporting our programming.

HCA Florida Palm West Multispecialty Clinic Now in Belle Glade!
|
|
HCA Florida, through HCA Florida Palms West Hospital, has opened a multispecialty clinic in Belle Glade. The expansion of services will bring the professional medical care to the Glades communities.
The newly-opened office has board-certified specialists in general surgery, heart and vascular care and gastroenterology who will see patients on a rotating basis in the shared clinic which features three exam rooms.
“No longer will people in the Glades, Hendry County and the surrounding communities, need to take a full day to come east to see the specialists they need. We are bringing these highly-skilled physicians right to them,” Palms West Hospital CEO Jason Kimbrell said. “The Glades communities have been historically underserved, and now, we are bringing world-class care to the Glades.”
To celebrate the opening, a ribbon cutting and reception was held which included Belle Glade Mayor Steve Wilson, Dr. Martin Harland, who has been practicing medicine in the Glades since the 1980s and Palm Beach County School and Palms West Hospital board member Marcia Andrews.
“I have an office out here and I’m going to be one of [the] patients,” Andrews said, “It’s about showing up and getting healthy for all of us.”

|
HCA Palms West multispecialty clinic is located at 1200 Main Street, Belle Glade (first floor in Dr. Harland's building).

Gove Elementary to host "Read With Me"
We are excited to announce that Gove Elementary School in Belle Glade will be hosting Read with Me! during the 2023/2024 school year.
Read with Me! is our newest initiative which allows volunteers to read to children in kindergarten classes. The Literacy Coalition provides a book and book-related activity for each child participating to take home. This is a lot of fun and usually takes from 60 – 90 minutes.
There is no commitment: volunteers participate when they can. Attached is a flyer with the 2023/2024 dates. The books we’ll be reading this year are Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems, Sky Color by Peter Reynolds, The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle, Nigel and the Moon by Antwan Eady and There was an Old Lady who Swallowed the ABCs by Lucille Colandro.
We’re asking you, as community leaders, to help us recruit volunteers to read at Gove. This is a wonderful way to connect community members with a local school. We guarantee both volunteers and children will enjoy this and lots of hugs will end each session!
