NATIONAL ARTS IN EDUCATION WEEK WITH MRS. SMITH
The St. Luke’s community recently welcomed a new theatre teacher, Ms. Smith, who is already making a positive impact on her students. Growing up in a musical family, Ms. Smith developed a passion for the arts and even performed in a show choir. She graduated from the University of Mobile with a BFA in Musical Theater.
Smith strongly believes that arts education is crucial for students, regardless of their interests or talents. She emphasizes that the arts teach valuable skills such as time management and listening skills, while also allowing students to express themselves and be outgoing. Her infectious enthusiasm for the arts is contagious and her students already benefit from her experience and knowledge.
One thing that sets Ms. Smith apart is her certification as a Stage Combatant through the Society of American Fight Directors. This unique skill set allows her to prepare her students for their upcoming performance with a level of authenticity and professionalism that is unparalleled.
This year, Ms. Smith is working on a big show that involves both the upper and middle school students, creating a sense of community and connection between the two groups. The high school students will mentor the younger students, fostering a sense of leadership and mentorship within the theatre community.
Smith has been impressed with the sense of community at St. Luke’s noting, “There is so much kindness and no one is truly left behind.” Her passion for teaching and the arts has already made a positive impact on her students, and it is clear that she will continue to inspire and educate for years to come.
