HUSH

from Inter-lux Decorative

Hush is designed as both a light source and an acoustic device and was developed by Marion Courtillé at David Trubridge Limited (DTL). DTL was commissioned by PLN Group to design an acoustic light based on PLN’s extensive market research for their growing design collection.

There are currently four sizes; Micro, Mini, Round and Oval. All are large enveloping canopies that contain a constellation of LED lights inside the top, except for Micro, which has an E26 bulb.

Underneath, sound is muted by the absorbent synthetic felt panels that are made from 100% polyester fibers (including a minimum of 65% post-consumer recycled material) which can be recycled again after easy dismantling. The material is safe, non-toxic, non-irritant, non-allergic and fire rated to ISO 9705.

Although the lights are large they are transported in a trademark kitset form. The interlocking shapes are very easily assembled with minimal connectors and no tools.

The material properties strongly influenced the design of Hush. We explored the use of a weaving technique which interlocks the components in order to reduce the number of fastenings for quick assembly. This system allows for efficient kitset freighting and the overlaps improve the acoustic properties.

The US Pole Company, home of Sun Valley Lighting and US Architectural brands, has been a leading manufacturer of architectural, performance, outdoor luminaires and decorative poles since its inception in 1984, when founder, Joe Straus started the company in Sun Valley, California.

From the beginning, our goal was always to be the best Outdoor Lighting Company for the professional market, embodied through domestic manufacturing, vertical integration, diversity of product, photometric performance and sophisticated architectural styling.

As the company grew, it moved into its current modern facility in Palmdale, California in 2002. In 2016, US Pole became an employee-owned entity (ESOP) where its employee owners continue to manufacture Buy American Act compliant luminaires, poles, and bases from ingot to illuminance.

Jacob Antoni is a custom designer and architect, originally from Berlin, Germany, currently working in Toronto, Canada.

His design has clean, simple lines to highlight the beauty of natural materials and to create individual one-of-a-kind pieces. He executes the pieces with his own hands.

Projects range in scale from tableware and lights to mid-range furniture pieces, and extend to larger in-built interior designs as well as full architectural reconstructions.

Every project aims at maximizing functionality and multi-purposefullness with elegant and refined detail.

Starburst

Starburst is a collection of kinetic pendants that when in compact form are semblant of stars which can then manually expand into a larger circle, triangle, or quad. Starburst can adapt to either organic or cosmic interior designs. The overlapping and interlacing of multiple brackets create contours that resemble elements of nature and can evoke feelings of well-being and positivity. The angularity of the brackets and diffusers complement futuristic themes that communicate innovation, high-tech, and the avant-garde. As a single pendant, Starburst acts as an illuminated art piece. When multiplied and layered, a celestial effect is created. To learn more watch the Deep Dive in image gallery.

New lighting scenarios for Michelangelo’s Pietà

Michelangelo’s Pietà is one of the most famous works of art in the world, achieving the same level of popularity that, perhaps, only The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa enjoy. It is estimated that the sculpture is visited by between 40,000 and 50,000 people every day.

Following the restoration projects completed for Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper and Giotto’s Scrovegni Chapel, iGuzzini met the brief put forward by the Fabric of Saint Peter – represented by Cardinal Angelo Comastri – which emphasized the requirement for a new lighting system that could allow its thousands of visitors to fully appreciate the artwork, as well as to create exceptional scenarios for special occasions and particular visitors.
