Annual study reports Canadians are choosing new ways of supporting charities |
A new study conducted by Sage in March 2023 has found that Canadian donors and volunteers are re-evaluating how they support charities in the face of financial concerns. The final report determined that more than a third of Canadian donors and volunteers will stop or reduce their charitable donations in the next 12 months. However, Canadian's support for charitable causes remains strong, with them choosing to engage differently. For example, the survey found that most respondents said they are likely to support charitable causes through purchases that donate a portion of the sales to charities and by signing a petition to advocate for a charitable cause.
At the same time, Canadians are becoming more strategic and expecting more transparency with the non-profits they choose to support, with 86 per cent of respondents saying they are more likely to donate if they know a charity is operating efficiently.
