When I graduated from Tahoma High School in 1987, our community certainly looked much different than it does in 2023. Four Corners was mostly trees, as was the land where our beautiful high school sits today. Our population has obviously grown, and it will continue to grow rapidly over the next decade.
Yet, through all the changes, the core values that make this place special have held strong. It is an unwavering confidence that we will always take care of our kidsâand each otherâs kids. Itâs what brought me back home to teach high school science at Tahoma in the â90s. Itâs the same reason my wife and I stayed here and raised our four children at Tahoma.
Our families, staff and community care about children, and we collaborate to give them the tools and experiences that they need to be successful.
We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to partner with you and decide together what those tools and experiences are that we want for our students over the next 10, 15, 20 years. Tahoma 100 is a chance for the people of Maple Valley, Hobart and Ravensdale to decide what a high-quality education means to us, and what it should look like for a child sitting in a classroom. Itâs a legacy moment that we will look back at someday and say, âTahoma 100 is the reason whyâŠâ
When I graduated over 30 years ago, our schools looked a lot different. Classroom design, technology, student experience, school security, accessibility, and curriculum have completely changed. But itâs the teachers and support staff demonstrating to a student that they care about them that matters most. That hasnât changed. Itâs parents who roll up their sleeves to coach, volunteer, and create lifelong memories for children. That hasnât changed. Itâs a community that says, âI believe in our kids,â and invests in their future. That hasnât changed.
Thereâs nearly a century of evidence that our Tahoma Family cares about our children, and that weâll do what it takes to make sure theyâre fully supported in a modern learning environment. We canât wait to work alongside you and decide, together, how we carry that tradition into our second century at Tahoma.
