TUESDAY MEMO
4th graders Eula, Antonia, and Audrey and 5th grader Lily are dressed in costume to assist Ecology School staff in presenting the weather data they collected while on their field trip last week.
Hello {First Name}, It's the penultimate week of school! Teachers are busy wrapping up units of study, planning and implementing final assessments, and designing the best ways to celebrate the school year we've had together.

Happy Tuesday,
Nelia
NOTES
RECESS RELAY AGAINST CANCER
Thank you to everyone who supported the Riverside Against cancer Relay Recess on Friday. The weather was beautiful and the music and dancing was so much fun. A special thank you goes out to all of our volunteers who donated their time to help plan the event, bake cookies, cut watermelon, set up the field, hand out popsicles, create a bubble oasis, paint faces, move tables and chairs and so much more. Homeroom teachers are collecting fundraising envelopes this week. Thank you for donating to this important cause, and if your family collected donations, please turn them in to Caroline by the end of the week.
SUNSCREEN
We continue to spend as much time as we can outdoors, and encourage our K-8 students to apply sunscreen at midday, and/or before an outdoor activity. Students can bring their own or use supplies we have at school. If this is important to you, please make that expectation clear with your children. If you do not want us to use the variety of products we have at school, please let your child's teacher know directly. Preschool has a different set of parameters around topical applications, if you have any questions about that, please reach out to McKenna.
LIBRARY & CLASSROOM BOOKS
As we approach the end of the year we would like to collect and re-organize all of Riverside's library books as well as each teacher's classroom library. Please search your homes for any texts that might belong to us and return them.
TEACHER APPRECIATION MEALS
Twice a year, the parents organize an opportunity to give back to the teachers and staff at The Riverside School. These meals are intended to replace any end of the year gifts you might want to give, and to celebrate! We are feeding 20 people from June 5-9, so it takes a village! If you like to cook, feel free to sign up for that, if you would rather spend some time setting up or cleaning up and chatting with everyone at school, that is another option. Thank you so much for helping do this - Riverside staff looks forward to this every year. Sign Up at this link.
SPRING FIELD TRIPS
Check out photos from all the trips here on our website.

5th Graders will be going to Kingdom Trails next Tuesday, May 6. Thank you to the parent volunteers will drive us there to release the trout raised by the class and the carved wooden boats that will paddle to the sea. Students also will bike on the trails. Students should bring a bagged lunch and snack, water bottle, sunscreen, bike and helmet, shorts for wading, towel, and optional water shoes.
SPRING CONCERT
We are hosting a PK-8th grade Spring Concert and Awards Night this Wednesday, May 31 at 5:30 pm in the Teachers Pavilion, rain or shine. Not all students are performing, as some individuals and groups have had other chances to show off what they've learned at the open mic night, assembly, or the talent show. Performers should wear concert dress (no jeans, shorts, or sneakers is suggested).
  • 5-6th graders that are performing and all band students should arrive at 5:00 and go to the yurt.
  • PK-4th graders should arrive by 5:15 and go to the assembly hall in the barn.
  • PK-2nd grade students will perform first and sit with their parents afterwards.
If your child is part of a group scheduled to perform, but cannot attend, please email Marie ASAP. We do hope all those who have something to show off at this event will make it a priority.
6-8 EXAM SCHEDULE
Middle school students will be taking exams next week in each of their 6 academic classes. Teachers will clarify the content and review study strategies with them this week. Some exams will encompass the whole year's learning, others just a part, depending on the teacher's preference.

Parents can support this effort by helping students take ownership of their review, organize their study plans and materials, and feel rested and comfortable on the day of the exam.

  • Tuesday: English, Latin
  • Wednesday: Math, Ancient History
  • Thursday: Spanish

7th Grade

BIKE TO SCHOOL
On our last day of school, Friday, June 9, students are encouraged to ride their bikes to school, as long as they are:
  • in groups of 6 or less,
  • elementary students are accompanied by an adult,
  • any "follow cars" don't impede traffic flow, and
  • the riders don't cross into the cars' lane of travel.
This tradition was started by students from Guildhall, so don't let distance or elevation impede you! Have fun, and don't worry, we won't count any tardies from those making their way on two-wheels.
PK-8 GRADUATION
Our 42nd graduation ceremony will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 10. This is an event to honor the hard work and achievements of all our Preschool-8th grade students, as well as the culture of our kind and generous community that makes their success possible. The ceremony, which includes students processing through the cedars, choral performances from the porch of the house, a guest speaker, 8th grade speakers, awards for students of all ages, and a presentation of diplomas to the Class of 2023 is meaningful to all of us. That day is counted as school day and we hope that every student will attend with some members of their family. If your child(ren) will not be attending, please email Krystal so that she can mark the attendance record and we can plan the rehearsal accordingly.

The ceremony will be surrounded by student artwork on display and followed by a potluck lunch. We ask all families to bring a salad or main course dish to share. Please remember a serving utensil and mark all your personal items with your name. Please also plan to list the ingredients, we will have markers and cards available if necessary. Riverside will be providing drinks and a cake. Thank you to the 7th grade parents who will be setting up the potluck, so you can simply hand your dish to one of them in the barn when you arrive for the ceremony.
CLUBS THIS WEEK
  • Dungeons and Dragons Club will meet Tuesday from 3:30 - 5:00.
  • Mountain Bike Club: Marie will meet younger bikers Thursday at 3:45 at East Burke Sports, and they will ride until 5:00. Sean would like to take older bikers to ride the Victory trails, please email him if you're interested to coordinate rides and timing.
COMMUNITY ART & BLOCK PARTY
Art teacher Elly is working up another community mural project that will be located on the corner of Elm Street and Depot Street in Lyndonville on the side of the building that houses Sweet Basil and Pure Envy Salon. All abilities and ages are encouraged to come and pick up a paintbrush or chalk to add to the beauty of downtown. The community portion of the project will take place on June 2nd at the Big Block Party event organized by Revamp the 'Ville starting at 2:00. There will be a lot going on all afternoon/evening and plenty of fun for the whole family including a show by Modern Times Theater!
