I-70 Ramp Improvements Expected to Begin in June

The Town of Bennett is currently working with CDOT on the I-70 and State-Highway 79 Off-Ramp project. This project includes the repair and realignment of the I-70 Eastbound off-ramp, ramp improvements and installation of traffic signals.

Work on this project is set to begin on June 12, 2023. Funding for this project comes partially from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and subregional funding.

Project updates, timeline and more information can be found online here.

For additional questions regarding the project, contact Capital Projects Director, Daymon Johnson, at 303-644-3249 ext. 1005 or [email protected].

June is Reduced Building Fee Permit Month

In June, the Town of Bennett will be offering reduced permit fees on some home projects. Permit fees on projects including siding, windows, fences, reroofing, decks, AC improvements, furnace replacements, water/sewer repairs and water heaters will be reduced by 50% during June.

The goal is to help residents with the cost of permit fees and still encourage home improvement projects. This program is only eligible for homeowners. Discounted permit fees include building permit fee, plan review fee and fence permit fee. Use and county taxes are not adjusted for reduced permit fee month.

Eligible permits must be paid for and issued during June 2023.

If you have questions regarding eligible projects, please contact the Building Department at [email protected].

Town of Bennett Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Public Works Facility

The Town of Bennett celebrated the opening of a new public works facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

The Northern Municipal Complex (NOMCOM) serves as the home of the Town’s Public Works Department and will be an integral part of the Town’s ability to continue to provide services to the Bennett Community.

A portion of the funding for the project came from the Department of Local Affairs. The Town first broke ground on this project in August 2021.

“While this project wasn’t immune from construction delays and other challenges, we are so glad to finally cut the ribbon on this building and are able to move forward in this new home for our Public Works Department,” said Mayor Royce Pindell.

Maintaining Your Property

Reminders for maintaining your property this summer:

  • Weeds should not be allowed to grow more than 6’’ tall. This includes areas such as alleyways, culverts, adjoining sidewalks and vacant lots.

  • Keep your trees and other vegetation clear of public streets. This allows our street sweeper to clean your street gutters more effectively.

  • Properties should be kept free of unsightly accumulation of litter, garbage and/or junk which is likely to become unsanitary, offensive or likely to create disease. Trash cans should only be left out on the day of pickup.

Overview of Changes to County Health Department Services

Tri-County Health Department formally dissolved December 31, 2022, which resulted in Adams County, Arapahoe County and Douglas County to operate individual public health departments beginning January 1, 2023. To serve the Town of Bennett, Adams and Arapahoe County Health Departments are now in place for health department services and guidelines. Below is an overview of each County’s information, areas of priorities and how they will serve the Town of Bennett. Adams and Arapahoe County have kept the same locations and most of the same staff that Tri-County Health had.

What is the difference between public health services and individual healthcare service? Public Health services focus on protection and promoting the health of entire populations, while healthcare services focus on diagnosing and treating individual patients. Public Health Departments seek to improve lives and the health of communities through the prevention and treatment of disease and the promotion of

healthy behaviors.

Uses of public health departments include:

  • Treating disease before it can spread into the community
  • Coordinating & conducting inspections
  • Track communicable diseases
  • Access to adequate nutrition
  • Immunizations availability

More information on county health department services and contacts can be found here.
