4-H Enrollment has now opened thru Zsuites for the 2023/2024

4-H COUNCIL OPENINGS!!

Lake County community members are invited to volunteer for the 4-H council. The purpose of the council is advisory and sponsoring committees, made up of friends and supporters of 4‑H YDP work, may be organized to assist in developing new programs, and in financing and promotion of the county 4-H programs for all county residents.


The council meets the first Monday of the month, 4 times per year or more as needed, currently via zoom.

Training Opportunities for

New and Returning Volunteers


Introduction: 2023 Online Workshop Series for 4-H Project Leaders


Option #1: In person workshops at the 4-H Lakeport office in December. Contact the office to be added to interest list.

 

Option #2: Virtual Workshops Facilitated Statewide by Volunteer Workgroup! Two sessions offered September and October

This series is designed to help adult 4-H volunteer educators learn how to plan and facilitate 4-H learning experiences (projects) with young people in community 4-H club projects, after-school club programs, day camps, special interest (SPIN) clubs, teenagers-as-teachers (teens-as-teachers) programs, and other educational experiences. In the four-part series, 4-H volunteer educators learn about their roles, responsibilities, lesson planning, making learning engaging, working with youth, and effective hands-on learning. Sessions cover content from The UC 4-H Volunteer Educators' Guide: For Volunteers Facilitating 4-H Educational Experiences (published in 2023).

  • Session 1: Best practices in youth development: Focusing on youth sparks, sense of belonging, and positive relationships with adults. (The 4-H Thriving Model of Positive Youth Development)  
  • Session 2: Learning in 4-H: Facilitating hands-on experiential education and planning your project. 
  • Session 3: Working with All Ages (from 5 to 18) and Abilities (The Ages and Stages of Youth Development)
  • Session 4: Creating effective youth-adult partnerships & working with youth leaders (Junior and Teen Leaders)


Participation: Complete the full four-part series to earn a certificate and 4-H volunteer name badge. They will be mailed to your UC cooperative extension county 4-H office in January 2024. Note: In order to receive these incentives, participants must have active (approved) 4-H volunteer status, through the 4-H volunteer appointment process, by December 31, 2023.

Lake County Fair

August 31- September 3

CLEAN STALL


Please keep in mind that your animals are on display for public viewing


Keep all pens, stalls, and walkways clean, neat and picked up. When moving your animal, clean up the area where the animal traveled or waited. Remember to feed, water, and groom your animal daily, more if needed.

All animals and pens should be ready by 8:00 a.m. for Clean Stall inspection.


Keep the manure bin area and area outside the barns clean and neat.


The member should do all work - if you need physical help, ask an older member.


Adults may step in for safety reasons, demonstrations, and to advise the member.

LIVESTOCK ARRIVAL TIMES

Junior swine, sheep, goats and beef must arrive with their animals on Wednesday, August 30th only, beginning at 6am ending at 12pm through the back Livestock Gate on Estep St.


Poultry and turkeys must arrive, be inspected and weighed on Wednesday, August 30th between 7am and 10 am entering the C Street Gate.


Rabbits and Cavies must arrive and be inspected on Wednesday, August 30th between 3pm and 5pm entering the D Street Gate. If earlier check-in is needed please contact the Alexander Barn Superintendent.



LIVESTOCK RELEASE TIMES

Junior exhibitors can remove their animals after 11pm on Sunday, September 3rd.


Purchased Auction animals marked “Hold Live” must be removed no later than 10am Sunday morning. Make arrangements with Livestock Superintendent.


Please obtain signed release forms from Livestock Superintendent before loading all Junior Livestock animals.


No cars will be allowed in barn area


No dismantling of any booths or educational displays will be allowed before 11pm on Sunday, Sept 3rd.


Participation in other exhibitions shall not be accepted as reason for early release, still exhibits shall not be released until Mon, Sept 4th between 9am and 1pm.

Auction Information


The auction will be Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. All members are asked to stay in uniform and help with refreshments, auction line up, and to cheer for the other members until the auction is completely over.

 

• Members must be in full uniform through the entire auction.

 

• Find out when your animal is slated to sell, if you miss your place in the auction line up your animal will not sell.

• Return your animal to its pen, go pick up your buyer card from the auction table, and take your buyer card directly to your buyer

Danny Wilds Award


This award was started in 1969 in memory of Danny Wilds, a member of the Big Valley 4-H Club during the years of 1959-1967.


All 4-H members exhibiting at the Lake County Fair are eligible for this award. Judging is based on sportsmanship, attitude, cooperation, quality of exhibits, appearance of exhibits and exhibitor, overall participation in fair activities.

There is no limit on the number of times a member may receive this award. An anonymous committee at the Fair will select the recipient. The recipient will receive a pin for their hat, their name engraved on a perpetual trophy and NEW this year a check for $250.00.

AWARDS CEREMONY

The Awards Ceremony will be held Sunday, September 3rd- 5:00 p.m., at the Livestock Pavilion.


All members must be in full uniform for the Awards Ceremony.

All Junior Auction Exhibitors must turn in Thank You Letter(s), stamped and self-addressed to the buyer(s) at the Junior Awards Ceremony on Sunday of fair.
