The Arts and Culture News for JUNE 2024
It's JUNE, and we are launching the Summer of Music!!!
June is really the start of summer in Waupaca, and we at WCAB are excited! We know that the kids are still in school for a few days, but the beach is open, it's getting hot and we are ready. Living in the north, we have to make the most of our short 3 month summer, so let's get going! And there's always so much to do in our little rural area...unreal!
And we are so excited to bring so much music to town this summer, with the Waupaca Jazz and Cocktails jazz festival that starts TODAY, (sorry, sold out! Maybe some tix available at the door, good luck!) the Summer NIghts Concert series, and many more opportunities in August with the upcoming ARTicipation Week and Arts on the Square... and even more from our friends in the many arts and culture groups in town! Stay tuned, Waupaca!!!
And June hosts a number of other "holidays:
- June 14: Flag Day: Established in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson
- June 16: Happy Father's Day to anyone who is, or has a dad, or had to be a stand in dad... ! (this includes single mamas) Here is a list of father-themed songs to enjoy on June 16!!!
- June 19: aka Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. It is a National Holiday celebrating the end of Slavery
- June 1-30: Pride Month. Established in 1999 and expanded in 2011, Pride Month honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
Enjoy this newsletter, it is chock-full!!!! As always, we encourage you to browse through: see all the happenings and many opportunities in our community, and if you feel curious, click on the bright blue links to take a deeper dive and get more details!

The 2023 Summer Nights Concerts start in June!
Summer means...Summer Nights Concerts!!!
Join us for our Kickoff Concert
Wednesday, June 12, 6:30-10 pm at the
Indian Crossing Casino
for a night full of great dance music
with
Copper Box
with opening band Baba Ghanooj
The Wheelhouse Restaurant is helping us to bring the phenomenal band, Copper Box, to the Casino on Waupaca's Chain O' Lakes for our special Summer Nights Kickoff Concert!
Waupaca's own Baba Ghanooj leads off the night, 6:30-7:15 p.m., with Copper Box taking the stage at 7:30 p.m.
Copper Box is a quartet based in Oshkosh, WI and was started in 2002 with co-founders, Danny Jerabek & Michelle LL (Jerabek). Danny grew up performing in his dad's band at the early age of 9 and was self-taught on button accordion (currently endorsed by Hohner Accordions), drums, trumpet, sax, etc. He married Michelle L Thull, who also performed in her dad's family band, and they started Copper Box so they could be together on stage. With the help of some incredibly talented musicians, Copper Box continues to deliver a punch in entertainment and musicality, playing familiar songs with a twist in a multi-genre accord (polka-rock-blues), as well as their own originals for concerts and events.
| |
Baba Ghanooj is a locally famous band that has been playing together for so long that even those who are not blood relation are considered family. Listen as they play songs from Steely Dan, Tom Petty, the Beatles, and some fabulous original gems. Their love for each other, and their listeners/dancers gets translated into a sound that is tight, energetic, & just a lot of fun for all.
| |
|
The Iconic newly remodeled Indian Crossing Casino bar will be open for food and beverage service. Come and enjoy great food drinks and music as we kick off summer!
And, hint: Bring your cash for the 50/50 raffle!
Kickoff Concert Tickets are $10/each at the door!

WE are so honored and excited to have this wonderful image created for our 18th Annual Arts on the Square 2024 by Tim Pucillo! Tim is a local artist who is also the Aretist in Residence at the Waupaca Arts Hub, reaching numerous classes for kids of all ages, some for adults, and has developed our digital maker's space, allowing kids to explore artwork using digital technology, animation and 3-D printing. Qigong Workshop at The {Tre} of Life
June 20th
6-7pm
Qigong, pronounced “chee-gong,” is an ancient practice and a pillar of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a moving meditation, coordinating slow-flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and a calm meditative state of mind.
Qigong is designed to realign the body’s energy centers to establish harmony and balance in body, mind, and spirit. It can help improve circulation, balance, flexibility, and muscle strength. It is calming for the central nervous system, helping to reset the stress response in the body, shifting us from the “fight or flight” mode into the “rest, digest, and heal” mode. Come experience this deeply calming and healing practice at the {Tre} of Life on Thursday, June 20th at 6:00-7:00 pm. This workshop is limited to 12 participants, so sign up now to reserve your spot!
