Dear Pastoral Assistants of Faith Formation and Catechists,

We begin a new year in Faith Formation and one of the challenges faced by our Pastoral Assistants of Faith Formation is to find catechist who are not only volunteers but people who are called by God to be echoes of His Word. This means that those who are called to form part of ar Faith Formation team need to see themselves as evangelizers. This is what our Archbishop Etienne encourages us to do as part of his vision for our Archdiocese.

This will make the process of finding the appropriate people more difficult, but we need to remind ourselves that "catechists are the backbone of our programs" as Julianne Stanz states in many of her trainings and articles and calling individuals to this ministry, forming them and retaining them is our top priority. Julianne also provides five characteristics of individuals we should invite using the word GIFTS:

G - Genuine

I - Inspiring

F - Formational

T - Trusting

S - Supporting

You can read a complete article on this topic here.

God bless your programs with abundance and great evangelizers who are called by Him to serve our children and families at the local parish.
