Enbridge looking for customers for
"Project Maple" pipeline expansion
Enbridge is looking for customers for a potential pipeline expansion of the Algonquin gas transmisison line. The proposal is to see how much call for gas capacity there is, and then figure out where they want to put in larger diameter pipe and/or add additional pipeline “loops” along the existing Algonquin system. They also mention boosting compression at compressor stations, in Weymouth in MA, Burrillville in RI and 4 others in CT (shown as green squares on the map).
This would impact anyone along the Algonquin gas transmission line through CT, RI and eastern MA, and of course it affects EVERYONE through climate impacts.
There's no official filing yet, just a call for bids, but now's the time to make some noise about it, before it gets in front of FERC.
We all can contact our state leaders (Maura Healey, Sec. EEA Rebecca Tepper and Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer here in MA), now in this early stage and urge them to speak out against the project and reject any state permits like the 401 Water Quality Permit if Enbridge ends up filing the project at FERC. Blocking state permits has stopped other pipelines in NY and I think NJ - it can happen here.
We put up a page for information, where you can see the call for bids there, as well as contact info for state officials in MA, RI and CT.

Please share the news widely.
At BEAT / No Fracked Gas in Mass, we’re always looking to gather and share everyone’s ideas, ideal contacts for leaders in other states who need to be pressured to oppose it, and any intel from impacted communties, so don’t hesitate to send anything to share our way.
Projects like this, the Springfield / Longmeadow Eversource pipeline proposal, and the new Peabody Peaker power station like this that increase in fossil fuel infrastructure affect us all. Let’s squash them all! It’s long past time to allow more fossil fuel development.
