Construction Activities

In observance of Labor Day, there will be no closures scheduled Friday, Sept. 1 through Monday, Sept. 4.

Bridge Work

Crews are making progress on the MacArthur Boulevard and Edinger Avenue bridges, which were demolished earlier this year.

A nighttime concrete pour is expected to occur on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the MacArthur Boulevard bridge followed by rebar work to begin in mid-September. MacArthur access will be maintained. Meanwhile, crews are also expected to excavate the for the bridge columns at Edinger Avenue before placing concrete piles that will support the bridge.

Retaining Walls

More than a half-dozen retaining walls are being constructed and are in different stages of construction. Activities may include excavation, steel placement, wall forming, and nighttime concrete pours.

Contractors are expected to begin preparations to demolish the existing retaining wall and build a new retaining wall along Hutton Centre Drive, south of MacArthur Boulevard (pictured below). Contractors are expected to remove portions of roadway. Subsequently, crews will shift to night work to install a shoring system, followed by demolition of the existing retaining wall. Additional information will be provided once this work is scheduled.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
