CARITAS BLOCK PARTY

Saturday, May 18

10 a.m.-Noon, 611 Neches St.

This free and family-friendly block party celebrates Caritas' 60th anniversary. In 1987, Caritas volunteers began using the front porch of St. David’s to hand out sandwiches, and soon this effort expanded into a soup kitchen. As the needs for the soup kitchen grew, St. David’s helped Caritas become an independent organization and helped conduct a capital campaign to purchase their own building downtown in 1999. To this day, Caritas, Trinity Center, and St. David’s work as physical and spiritual neighbors providing respect, basic needs, and social services, to the most vulnerable in downtown Austin.
