Dear Friend,
“Santa Maria del Camino,” is a traditional Marian hymn that was part of my childhood in Chile. My devotion to Mary was informed by that hymn. We sang it so many times. Multiple times. Every Sunday!
The song begins with an important reminder:
|
|
We are not alone in our journey.
Mary walks with us.
In our struggles,
when we are discouraged,
we are invited to pray:
ven con nosotros a caminar
come as we journey along our way.
|
|
As we celebrate Mary’s month, let us remember that she accompanies us on our pilgrimage. She walks with us along our way. Towards Jesus. We pray, place us with your Son.
Mientras recorres la vida, tú nunca solo estás. Contigo por el camino, Santa María va.

Office of Ignatian Spirituality
“The late medieval mural of Santa Maria della Strada was on an external wall of the small chapel of Our Lady of the Way in Rome. It was here that Ignatius prayed and eventually set up the headquarters of his new Society. Ignatius would have known the image well and, throughout his life, had a particular devotion to Our Lady under whose patronage he placed the Society of Jesus."
