More local resources and options will be announced when our diocesan year closes Sept. 9. Come Holy Spirit!

NEW! Revival prayer team releases Mass resource – As part of Eucharistic Revival efforts, the local Prayer Team is concentrating on creating awareness and deepening understanding of the True Presence of Christ, especially at Mass. This guide encourages Mass-goers to be more intentional at encountering Christ at the Eucharistic table. It includes Gospel readings and reflection questions for each of nine Sundays from July 2 through August 27, leading up to the "Becoming Eucharist" Eucharistic Congress Sept. 7-9. Visit stcdio.org/eucharistic-revival/ for more information.

The nine Gospels and questions in this booklet are for individuals or families to print and use for the weekend liturgy. Parishes also can print and make them available before each Mass or distribute them as a booklet. The questions may also be printed in weekly parish bulletins.

NOTES FROM THE DIOCESAN OFFICES

David Fremo ♦ (320) 251-0111

Catholic Schools – Summertime is a blessed time for Catholic school educators! We are called to rest and to be refreshed in many ways. It is a time for planting seeds in the garden of our work that can be grown and harvested in the year (and years) ahead.

Here are three seeds that sow well in the summer:

  1. School handbook review and update. This is among the most important resources for our school families. Whether you need some minor or major revisions, a great place to start is with S. Mary Angela Shaughnessy’s expert guide, School Handbooks: Legal Considerations, 3rd Edition. (2017). NCEA.
  2. Safety audits and updates. Catholic schools are called to be leaders in providing safe, comfortable, and trusting environments for students. Our partners at Catholic Mutual have several excellent resources to help with this process. CEM is here for you as you engage in this work as well.
  3. Learn something new! NCEA’s work with the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Schools has come to fruition in multiple ways. An excellent new resource connects these to operations in many of our school communities, Jill Anable and Kevin Baxter’s Greatness in Smallness: A Vision for Catholic Microschools. (2021). NCEA. A “microschool” here refers to schools with about 150 students or fewer. In addition to the book, there are numerous webinars and development opportunities available from NCEA for school leaders.

Emmaus Institute –  If you or someone you know is interested in Emmaus Institute, please contact Kristi Bivens at (320) 258-7642 or [email protected]. For more information about Emmaus Institute, you can also visit the diocesan website at www.stcdio.org/Emmaus-Institute.

Mass Counts – We will again be asking each parish to keep track of Mass attendance during the month of July. Please take time to plan this. If you need a sheet with the weekend dates, contact the Planning Office and we will send you one. We will again use an online format to submit the Mass count numbers in August. We depend on these numbers for planning purposes and parish profiles. They help give a snapshot of what is happening in the parish.

August 20 – Rural Life Celebration – A reminder that the annual Rural Life Celebration for the Diocese will be held on the grounds of St. Nicholas Parish in Belle River. Posters for the event were given at all the deanery meetings in June (two per parish). If you did not receive a poster or need additional posters, please contact [email protected]. Below is information to include in your parish’s written, electronic and verbal parish announcements as you are able. Thank you for inviting your parishioners to this event!

Please share the below information in your parish announcements:

The Rural Life Celebration will take place on Sunday, August 20, beginning with an outdoor Mass with Bishop Patrick Neary, starting at 10:30 a.m.. It will be held on the grounds of St. Nicholas Parish in Belle River. The offering at Mass will support the Rural Life Fund of the diocese; we will also honor this year’s Catholic Century Farm Awards and Rural Business Award recipients. Meal and family-friendly activities to follow Mass. The event is free and open to all ages.

Pray for Rain – Our farmers have had a tough planting season already, with the extra long and wet winter that made it hard to get into the fields on time. And more recently, they have been facing the lack of rain. In addition to your own prayers for rain, please consider adding a petition to your parishes’ Prayers of the Faithful for our farmers and for the much-needed rain that helps them with their livelihood and our world’s food needs.

If you are willing to also include a prayer for rain in your parish’s bulletin, website, social media sites, etc., here is a possible prayer to include:

Almighty God, we are in need of rain.

We realize, looking up into the clear, blue sky above, what a marvel even the least drop of rain is. To think that so much water can fall out of the sky, which now is empty and clear!

We place our trust in You. We are sure that You know our needs.

We ask You to offer your comfort and peace to all our farmers and those who rely on the lands and life-giving rain for their livelihood and well-being. May we be grateful for their toil, and may their trust in you bear great fruit.

Look on our dry lands and fields, dear God, and bless them with the living blessing of soft rain.

Then the land will rejoice and the rivers will sing Your praises, and the hearts of all will be glad.

Amen.

October 14 – Save the Date: Parish Social Ministry Gathering – Please mark your parish calendars now for the annual Parish Social Ministry Gathering. If possible, please avoid other programming prior to the evening on that day, to allow for your parish staff and parishioners to attend this annual diocesan event. More details will be available soon.

The Diocese of Saint Cloud is completing five years of using the CMGconnect (Catholic Mutual Group Connect) platform for adult safe environment training which includes a background check through Selection.  Selection is a national search background check company. Since this is a national background check search company, background checks can range from $19 to over $100 depending upon how many places a person has lived.

After listening to many people and working with Catholic Mutual and Selection, the Diocese has decided to implement a renewal process for people who have completed five years of training and background and now need to renew.  This renewal curriculum will be available July 1.  Good news is that the background checks will just be a Minnesota check and the cost will be less than the current charge.  Remember new employees and new volunteers will have to complete the regular training with a national search.

We will try to make this as clear as possible for people doing background checks and training.

Site Administrators Training – We know there are many new site administrators across the diocese since this system began and I would like to offer three training sessions for site administrators to attend.

August 10         Staples          Sacred Heart School               1:00-3:00 p.m.

August 10         Alexandria     St. Mary's Great Hall               10:00 a.m.-noon

August 16         St. Cloud       Pastoral Center                       10:00 a.m.-noon

It would be a wonderful thing to have every ACC present at one of these trainings. Please bring your laptops.

The children and youth curriculum from Virtus is also available July 1. There will be two new lesson plans this year.

See you in August!!!

Stewardship

SAVE THE DATE:  There will be an online Stewardship Day offering from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23. The event will be bilingual and focus on the Eucharist as a lesson in stewardship.

Diocesan Stewardship Advisory Council: The council exists to provide a foundation for developing stewardship as a living expression of Christian discipleship within our Diocese, our Area Catholic Communities, and our Parishes.

The resource page is located at: https://stcdio.org/stewardship/.

If you have any questions or have suggestions about how the council can support your parish/ACC stewardship efforts, please contact Anna Kampa at [email protected] or 320-258-7654.

Bishop’s Annual Appeal – As of June 19, the Bishop’s Annual Appeal for 2023 has raised total cash and pledges of $1,111,168 toward our goal of $1,400,000 (79.37%). This was made possible through the generous donations of 6,158 people throughout the 16 counties of our diocese.

Parish/School Distributions – In June the Office of Stewardship and Development distributed $184,320 to parishes and our two Catholic high schools to support Catholic school education and religious education. Distributions are based on the number of students enrolled from each parish and the number of children in religious education. The current model for distributions will remain the same for 2024. After that, the diocese will be looking into other options for distribution of funds with an eye towards increasing the impact on Catholic education.

The work of the Tribunal has continued throughout these months – but with the inability to meet in person with clients we have made several adjustments to meet the needs of the people. In this process the staff has chosen to make some adjustments to the annulment process.

The adjustments are as follows:

  • The documents required are the same for each annulment process and are:
  1. baptismal certificates for both principals;
  2. marriage certificate
  3. divorce decree

  • For the formal annulment process, the petitioner can submit the completed form (Formal Petition (PDF) or Formal Petition (DOC)) and a narrative –or– participate in a telephone interview –or– appear in person at the Tribunal Office for a scheduled appointment.

  • In the formal process, hearing the witnesses will not have to be in person at the Tribunal. The witnesses will be contacted by phone and the petitioner will assure the availability of the witnesses for a phone interview at a time designated by the Tribunal.

If you are uncertain about the annulment process or any have other questions, you can contact the Tribunal Office at (320) 251-6557 or email [email protected][email protected][email protected] or [email protected].
