One Community One Family

Dear Christ the King Catholic School Community,

The month of May is amazing! So many aspects that are beautiful like today’s blue sky, and our outdoor environment adorned in bloom; including celebrations and milestones, First Holy Communions, graduations, and most importantly honoring our Holy Mother Mary.

May offerings to the Blessed Virgin Mary, refer to special Marian devotions held throughout the universal church in honoring Mary. We have and will experience two sacredly special masses; one in honor of our Holy Mother Mary and the other celebrating moms, grandmothers, Godmothers, and special female friends of our One Community One Family.

This past weekend Merrilee and I were honored to witness our second-grade students receive the sacrament of First Holy Communion whereby two more masses are planned this weekend. A very special thank you to Father Paulson, Father Lee, Deacon John and Julie Ashmore, Sister Dominic, Dana Urbina, Rosa Panelli, Tina Snyder, RE catechists, and our families for their guidance, love, and intentionality in preparing the way.

As we reach out we see clearly the abundant blessings from God and look forward to celebrating our 8th graders and experiencing the most awesome ministry of Catholic education in faith/excellence/action each day. The restful and enlivening light of summer are just around the corner, but so much more learning and discovery as we pour into our days together.

Our faculty and staff and community are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week. A special thank you to Carolyn Della Maggiore, PTG, our students, and families for showering our faculty and staff – with generosity, immense support, and kindness.

In a longstanding career I have been blessed to work with such dedicated, gifted and talented, and caring colleagues. A special thank you rests below as a tribute to our CTK faculty and staff – that is beloved and family to us all:

Thank you for choosing the vocation of Catholic education and for choosing to fulfill that vocation at Christ the King Catholic School. The work you do in Catholic Schools is irreplaceable. Never underestimate the influence you have on the lives and souls of our children who pass through your classroom. I want you to know how much we value and appreciate what you do each and every day! May God Bless you abundantly for your commitment, love, support, wisdom, experience and care.

In closing the words of Pope John Paul ll truly exemplify Christ the King Catholic School’s mission and charism, “In order that the Catholic school and the Catholic teachers may truly make their irreplaceable contribution to the Church and to the world, the goal of Catholic education itself must be crystal clear. Beloved sons and daughters of the Catholic Church, brothers and sisters in the faith: Catholic education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others.” – Message of John Paul II to the National Catholic Educational Association of the United States, April 16, 1979.

Abundant blessings and gratitude,

Mr. Joseph M. Silveira Ed.D.

Principal

Prayers

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to always be thankful for the blessings in our lives. At times we want more and think we are owed so much. But with Your help we can see that You provide what we truly need. Please hear the intentions in our hearts for our CTK community.

Let us keep the Serafini and Omole families in prayer as they recover from illness.

If you have special intentions please email Mrs. Meran here so we can include them in our next newsletter.

High School Placement Test

We have a great opportunity coming up for all of your 7th grade students, both girls and boys! Carondelet will be hosting a practice HSPT (High School Placement Test) exam on Wednesday, May 22 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.

Please see details below:

The HSPT is given to all students applying to any Catholic High School in the Oakland, San Jose, or San Francisco diocese. At Carondelet, HSPT scores are used for admission, course placement, and a variety of scholarship opportunities. Our Practice HSPT registration is now open, and will close when our max seat capacity of 250 students is reached. Once you have completed this initial registration form, please follow the link in the confirmation page to register online with Scholastic Testing Services. The access code to register is: ZA.

Our HSPT practice exam is available for both girls and boys at $60 per student, and will be held in the Carondelet Garaventa Center. This practice exam will help students familiarize themselves with the HSPT and will give insight into current areas of strength and growth. Scores will be kept private and emailed directly to families from our host testing company, Scholastic Testing Services.

If you are interested in opportunities to see either campus or learn more about our schools, make sure to fill out an inquiry form for Carondelet or De La Salle.

We look forward to getting to know your family! Please reach out to
