The Hemlock Run Tattler

Summer 2023 Edition

Choice and Chance

One of my favorite poems is "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost.

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood ..."

Simplistically, it's a poem about the necessity of choosing.

For me, the most enjoyable part of writing fiction is deciding what choices my characters make when confronted with challenging situations.

They may comfort or blame themselves by assuming that their current predicament is a result of their choices. Or they may chalk it up to destiny or just plain luck, good or bad! Fortunately, my keyboard has a "delete" key, so it's relatively easy to get them out of impossible situations.

If only it were that easy in real life!

Until then ... choose wisely!!

Author's Update

Revealing Ophelia

Book Two of the Hemlock Run Series

Speaking of choices, I faced a dilemma this summer ...

Would I continue writing "Revealing Ophelia"? Or would I finish a book that had been on the back burner for a couple years?

Answer: the back burner book is undergoing final edit and cover design!

I look forward to telling you all about it next time ...

It's a far cry from the Hemlock Run books, but it was also a lot more fun to write!

PS I'm still working on "Ophelia" and hope to have her finished soon!

HEMLOCK RUN SLOGAN CONTEST !!

By Lorae Ditzler, Executive Editor

Well, in the last newsletter I asked for article suggestions, but there was only ONE fit to print.

Edna Kreider, our late editor, feels that our welcome sign is not very friendly, especially the "NOW GO HOME!" part that SOMEONE scrawled below "Welcome to Hemlock Run". She suggested we come up with a new sign and a FRIENDLY slogan.

She said when she and Lester were cruising out West in their 5th wheel, they stopped in Walla Walla, Washington, "The Town so Nice They Named it Twice".

See a bad exampnle of a slogan below: (I will NOT name names, but everyone knows who you are!!!!)

POISON HEMLOCK TAVERN

Darlene and Amos from the Poison Hemlock Tavern will give a gift certificate for 2 Shakespeare baskets to the lucky sinner - oops, winner (I am just getting used to Edna's old comupter).

If you want to be on the committee to pick the NEW SLOGAN, put your name in the suggestion box at the General Store. BUT you cannot pick your own entry as the winner!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
