Friday Devotional:
Psalm 98
My five-year-old granddaughter declared, " Grandpa, I haven't seen you in so long. I just had to remember you!" To be remembered with love is something to sing about. I made a "joyful noise." (v.4) as I scooped her up for a big hug.
Psalm 98 sings praise for God's victory over the powers of evil that threatened to destroy God's people taken captive and oppressed: "[The Lord] has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Isreal." God has saved the people from destruction and death, and the people sing praises in response.
So it is with Christ's resurrection-God's victory over sin, death, and the power of the devil for the sake of the world God remembers and loves. In response to this gift, we live as Easter people: We sing joyous songs of how God "just had to remember" us-so great is God's love! Then we remember in care and compassion those who feel forgotten. We live out and tell of God's love, God's victory over evil, God's remembrance of us all.
As you remember us in love, O God, help us remember you and sing your praise. Amen.
