Brief Bio
I learned Spanish as a teenager living in Florida by tutoring kids and in high school. In addition to Florida, I’ve lived in California, Colorado, Georgia, Virginia (DC), and Spain. I moved to Davie county and started at DDCC in November 2021 in order to be closer to my brother, sister-in-law, niece(2), nephew(1), and dad (76)
After graduating from Wake Forest, since I had so many student loans already, I moved to Salamanca, Spain to go to grad school. There I completed a M.Ed. in Immigration and Education while interning with the Red Cross helping refugees from Africa. Then I completed all but the dissertation for a PhD. program in Spanish Grammar. I taught English and translation courses and translated and interpreted for conferences in order to pay for my college and living expenses. It was so cheap there and I loved the culture! I’ve worked with kids that crossed the border by themselves, in hospitals, teaching basic Spanish, at a library, and as an interpreter in schools.
