Betty and Brianna took a trip to the Canadian-owned family business, African Lion Safari. The park is approximately 750 acres, 250 of those provide animals with large areas of bush, grasslands or forest where they can interact naturally with other animals. Betty and Brianna took in all of the sights and sounds of the Safari from the safety of the vehicle, and enjoyed their visit very much!

WELCOME
- SUMMER IN ESSEX COUNTY -
|
|
It must be the end of June. Storefronts across Windsor-Essex County now have new window coverings. Fishflies! Are you going to shop or out to eat? You’ll be greeted by sidewalks and parking lots coated with fishflies and new summer sounds — Crunch! Crunch! Crunch! And the smell!? Rotting fish! Residents in these communities know it’s “lights out” when the sun goes down. Light attracts these seasonal ‘guests’, who announce a healthy ecosystem. Put out your welcome mat, but don’t turn on the lights!
As the school year draws to an end and the long-awaited summer holiday season fast approaches, you and your family have opportunities to experience regional activities close to home. No need to drive for miles or fly for hours. It’s summer in Essex County. Sit back, soak up the warm temperatures and most importantly, enjoy either unstructured family time or new community opportunities. Life is short, enjoy the moment!

New Day held a summer BBQ on Friday June 16th at Vollmer Pavilion in LaSalle. It was a great turn out with over thirty people in attendance! It was wonderful to see people again in person and to reconnect with friends. New Day was able to meet some members who we have never met before in person, only on a screen. The BBQ also gave brothers Scott and Shane the opportunity to reunite. It had been years since the two had last seen each other.

Staying Healthy Throughout the Summer

Many Canadians love to barbecue, especially when the weather starts to get warm. As with any type of cooking, it's important to follow safe food handling guidelines to prevent harmful bacteria from spreading and causing foodborne illness.
It is important to know and follow the following food safety rules when preparing for a picnic or barbeque:
- Use an insulated cooler instead of a picnic basket.
- Keep food in the fridge until you are ready to pack it in the cooler.
- Pack frozen food and ice packs on top of food.
- Wrap hot foods in foil and keep in a separate insulated container.
- Pack sanitizing wipes for hand washing when water is not available.
- Do not store coolers in the trunk as the temperature is much higher than the passenger part of the vehicle.
- Eat before the warm weather melts the ice in the cooler.
- Keep the cooler in the shade when you are outside and try not to open the cooler too often.
- When you are done eating, throw leftovers away if possible.
