Love? Really? What about a different word? I’d be more comfortable with “like” or “tolerate”. It seems more manageable. I’d even settle for “put up with.” I can do that.
Everybody? Really? Even “creepy people”, those I don’t get along with, those that rub me wrong, those I avoid?
Always? That seems like a lot. What about sometimes, or when it suits me?
Love. Everybody. Always. In that order and taken literally, these words serve as our entry into a new sermon series and our Broadway one read.
We take inspiration from two biblical giants in Peter and Paul that wrestled deeply with what it meant to love everybody always…even each other! Author Bob Goff says, “If this sounds like a tall order, you’re right. But you’re also in luck. God does not leave us to love this way by trusting in our own willpower. The Holy Spirit is around to actually help us love this way.
What might it mean to actually love everybody, always? How might your heart, our church, and our world change if we did?

News and A Look At What's Coming Up

Dear Fellow Broadway Bus Riders,
Hope I didn’t give Don Harter heartburn! BEING ON THE BUS-MOVING FORWARD has served as a description of our journey during this liminal space; the space between what is and what will happen next, the space we occupy (physically, emotionally, spiritually) during periods of transition. As part of this transition, Robin Perso and Darren Day are moving to the front of the bus while I find a different seat. My prayer continues to be that this time we are in will be transformative and valuable-that this time will provide the building up of strength and partnerships as we MOVE FORWARD.
Make room on the bus for DAVID AND JENNIE SHIREY. Even though David has been working in
anticipation of serving alongside us, his official first day is July 5th and their first BCC Sunday is July 9th. Join
me in welcoming them! Wear your name tag! The Fellowship Committee will be organizing “Meet and Greet” opportunities. And thank you again to the Interim Pastor Search Committee Brent Ghan, Martha Jolly, Ken Butler, Lysa Holmes and Phil Fichter.
Speaking of search, the Board approved the Settled Lead Pastor Search committee. Committee
members include Tina Van Ness (Chair), Jan Frost, Charlotte George, Darren Day, Jenny Lybeck-Brown,
and David Coil. Please join me in praying for each one, praying into God’s guidance. May we open ourselves to the discovery of what God desires for Broadway.
One final word. Let me say thank you to all who have said YES and continue to say YES. For being willing
to get on the bus and trust the journey forward. I have had the opportunity to “inject” myself into weekly staff meetings. I am so very grateful for our beloved staff. We have all seen a duck or better yet, a swan skimming the surface of the water. Looks so graceful. Effortless. Hidden from our view, feet paddling like crazy. Our staff are the swans making it look easy while paddling hard and long hours. To Terry, John, Ingrid, Jay, Taby, Kate, Sara, and Leslie- we all say thank you!
Thank you, God for giving us the courage to step out into this liminal space. We know it would be much easier to stay with what we know, to take only the well-marked paths. Give us the ears to hear YOUR invitations and the courage to respond. May we be emboldened by YOUR unwavering love, the example of Jesus challenging the status quo and the presence of YOUR HOLY SPIRIT. Strengthen our resolve to love one another, to trust one another. May we share in the quest for wholeness. You are our HOPE. Take our hands, guide our steps, give courage to our hearts. We pray all this in the name of our precious savior, Jesus. AMEN AND AMEN.

Thank you
Thank you to our Broadway family for your meals, notes, calls and especially your prayers following my recent surgery. Such an event is never pleasant, but Brent and I are able to approach my various medical issues with peace because we know we have the love and support of all of you. It truly makes a difference.
Thank you so much! Best, Cheri Ghan
To my many friends at BCC,
Thank you for the many cards I have received over the past several months. It was always a 'pick-me-up' so see a card in the mail from CareLink. And all of the beautiful flowers delivered. Nothing is more positive than to see a vase of flowers coming through the door. The home communion helped keep my spirits up. I can never thank so many who have given me the gifts of personal best wishes and true Christian Fellowship. I am trying hard to move from wheelchair to my Rolator and still have a ways to go to get my lower back tended to but by the grace of God and Christ's loving care, I'm making it. Thank you and sincerely, Paul Meyer
Dear Broadway Christian Church,
Thank you for the scholarship money. With it, I intend to further my culinary career at Johnson County Community College. Lucas Kenney
