The Bible and Today's Headlines

Sunday, May 5, 2024, 10:00 a.m.

"Antisemitism" is a word we have recently heard often in the news because of the war in Gaza and the protests against that war around the country. Sadly and tragically, Christians "invented" antisemitism and have caused untold suffering by Jews for almost 2000 years. Indeed, it is difficult to read the New Testament without seeing views that at least appear to be antisemitic. It just so happens that the lectionary reading from the Book of Acts this week compels us to think about antisemitism and try to envision a version of Christianity that is not scarred by this terrible ideology. This will not be a sermon about modern politics (narrowly conceived), but about the relationship of Christians to Jews, the people into whom we are grafted through Jesus of Nazareth.

Please join us this Sunday at 10:00 a.m., in person or on our livestream.

And, please plan on staying after worship for our seminar on Navigating Our Relationship with Modern Media!

9:00 Worship

In the Chapel

This family-friendly service embraces the busy energy of young children. It is held every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in our Chapel with wonderful live guitar or piano music. And if you're running late - that's ok! Who actually gets places on time with kids in tow? Like God, we give grace. We embrace movement and busy curious little minds at this service that lasts 25-30 minutes. While it is designed as a teaching opportunity and introduction to Christian worship for young children, we welcome anyone of any age or family stage.

For Women

Authentic Women Discussion Group

Every Wednesday starting May 8th, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on ZOOM!!

We are a friendship group of gals of diverse ages and backgrounds interested in continuing growth in life! We use a non-fiction book as our "springboard" for discussion. We read about 30 pages per week for discussion and employ Jacki Peterson Sluder as our moderator to give structure to the discussion and keep us on subject. For more information, please reach out to Sue Nibeck.

Our Spring selection is, "These Precious Days: Essays," by Ann Patchett.

This favorite author reflects on home, family, friendships and writing in this personal collection of essays. She provides us with another way of looking at our lives. “Stoic, kindhearted, fierce, funny, brainy, Patchett’s essays honor what matters most in this precarious and precious life.” — Oprah
