Just Released: Check Out the Enhanced Version of the California Postsecondary to Prosperity Dashboard

On July 10, California Competes: Higher Education for Strong Economy held a webinar to announce that they have released an enhanced version of their California Postsecondary to Prosperity Dashboard.

California Competes is a nonpartisan policy and research organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities for all Californians by transforming the state’s higher education and workforce development systems.

This dashboard has new features and metrics, weaving together 15 datasets to provide comprehensive insights into the state of opportunity in higher education, employment, and quality of life across California’s diverse regions and counties. This is the second edition of the Dashboard from the nonpartisan policy research organization focused on advancing more equitable higher education and workforce outcomes.

The California Postsecondary to Prosperity Dashboard is a user-friendly tool for policymakers, researchers, and other interested stakeholders to understand the achievements and missed opportunities in the pathways from education to prosperity within the state. With the latest updates, the Dashboard equips users with even deeper information and analytical capabilities, enabling evidence-based decision-making to address the equity gaps that exist across California.

Key highlights of the updated dashboard include:

More detailed data: The updated dashboard offers additional disaggregation, including the ability to view results by the following categories.

  • County-level: Explore county-level and regional variations and tailor strategies based on geographic-specific needs.
  • Intersections of race/ethnicity and gender: Gain a more nuanced understanding of how multiple dimensions of identity intersect and influence educational and economic outcomes.
  • Immigrant, parenting, and incarceration status: Understand where the experiences of these populations may differ and remove barriers to their success.

Addition of new metrics:

  • Wage premium for a college degree: Gain insights into the economic benefits associated with earning a college degree and the variations across regions and demographic groups.
  • Economic mobility: Assess the extent of upward economic mobility experienced across different communities, providing insights into opportunities to strengthen pathways to success.
  • Cost and affordability of child care: Understand the cost and accessibility of child care services, an essential factor for many working families and the overall economic well-being of the state.

Enhanced user experience:

  • Downloadable metrics: Download metrics in CSV and PDF formats, facilitating further analysis and sharing of insights.
  • Flexible display formats: Switch between counts and percentages to accommodate different analytical needs.
  • Anchor links: Seamlessly navigate and direct others to specific metrics of interest within the dashboard.
  • Expanded data sources: Gain a more holistic understanding of life outcomes with the incorporation of new data sources like Strada Education Foundation surveys and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation records.
